Default Boat Bag

I was wondering what you competition guys use for a tackle Box/ Game Bag for your boat fishing. I presently use a plastic Tackle box which I have partitioned the inside with thin ply. This is ideal for access and is totally waterproof (a must if you live in Orkney) It is starting to get to small for all of my lines, reels, flies, etc. I purchased the wychwood boat bag but must admit it is not the ideal bag too clumsy in my opinion. I have changed back to my PVC tackle box. I have looked at the Greys Platinum Kit bag and although rather expensive for the XL It does seem to cater more for the competition angler. I am amazed that none of the manufacturers have developed this bit of kit considering the influence the competition guys have on the tackle market. Any suggestions before I part with more hard earned cash would be appreciated

At the minute i am using a shakespeare seat box with a stanley tool organiser set into the top of the seat box to put all of my reels and spare lines and stuff into. I have also put foam on the lid of the box which allows me more space for flies instead of having to carry another fly box. I can fit all my waterproof gear and fishing tackle into the seat box. In my opinion its better than any boat bag.

The largest of the Snowbee bags for me... seriously good build quality, moulded bottom, and gallons of space.

I have recently converted from a bag to a Shakey box (had one for 30 years from coarse fishing) plus a Greys "wet bag" for clothes, grub etc.

Great move, especially if you get a lot of rain or spray like we had today

Everything totally waterproof

Charlie

Manufacturer's Consultant of 28 years here !

Actually there aren't all that many Competition Anglers relative to the main body of the Kirk ( 12% max ) and whereas they make a lot of noise in magazine coverage terms - it likely isn't worth doing anything special as you maybe wouldn't get your development money back !

And yes our seatbox has sold very well for very many years -it keeps your tackle dry .

Bags I ain't so happy with - they all start to leak within a few years in any event ! And interestingly every serious competition tyro wants their very own design - and exactly what the Competiton Tackle Bag would look like if produced by a committee of them I shudder to think - you might well need a spare boat and luggage manager for each one !

Why not have a go yourself ?

Best wishes

Steve P
