Default Winnerweb Problems

Just thinking about the Winnerweb cancellation and what problems were encountered by the organisers.
Firstly was it advertised well enough with the full page adverts in the fishing mags?
Secondly when I asked Gordon at Lockwood Beck to put my name down for the match he told me I had to go on line to register, that I see as problem 1, what's wrong with filling a form in, writing out a cheque and posting? Or even the fisheries involved taking names and creating a list.
Lastly I organise the Alan West match every year and always get late entrants wanting to fish, this year people were ringing me as I drove to Rutters the day before the match. Was the plug pulled too early? I've spoken to a couple of lads at work who were both shocked and said they were going to enter.

I'd be interested in your views/comments, but also Winnerwebs.

Regards

Andy Clark

Hi Andy,

I could half see it coming this year mate.......... as i believe they took a hefty loss through last years event. The costing of advertising and the various other costings were very high. My guess is that they were down a few k's.

I think a company like WinnerWeb would need to sustain a few years loss until the event developed as planned and generated any profit.

It's sad but in the current climate......... i can understand there withdrawal.
Unfortunately it may well get worse as far as competitions go.
Big cash sponsers like Winnerweb need to be supported, hopefully attracting other companies to flyfishing.
