Doubt if it was the cost, £15 on top of the normal fishing cost is hardly excessive.
Whilst a lot of people enjoy fishing the small waters, most will be for leisure and not that interested in competition fishing or travelling to non local fisheries.
Probably better to wait and see the turnout before debating too much, low presumably depends on what the expectation was.

Thumbs up Next year will be better!

Year one is always the hardest. I think by the second year a lot more anglers will be interested in taking part, after all, this will be a pretty prestegious event. A large part of the reason for a less than perfect turnout has to that nearly all the fisheries were closed for over 3 months this winter, so anglers weren't talking to each other about it the same. And it really should have had major media coverage, after all, this is the very first Bank fishing International. This will become a major event in our angling calander over the next few years & deserves recognition. It's all good PR for fishing & the future of our pasttime and good PR for our countrys!.. This should have happened years ago and there's been nothing since the Sunday Post folded.

Good luck to everyone for the priliminary heats and the tightest of lines for those who will win their place in Scotlands new national bank angling team!..

This is the same competition that created such a stir ,as John rightly says its to early to judge but my gut feeling is that it will continue to have a lower than expected turnout.

The reason, pe.....ing most of the regular comp anglers that might of taken part if it had been done in the proper manner.

It will be quite sad if this trend continues as its hardly the recipe to produce a good international team.

Travelling to non local fisheries is what i think Peekaboo meant by costs. After your heat you then have another heat to travel to and then down to the final.Maybe just my way of thinking but would`nt it made more sense to hold this type of thing either before or after the bigger waters open up?Wee Joey

what if i stay in moray and fish the glen of rothes heat and qualify i would then need to travel to kingennie and if i qualify from there i then need to travel to glasgow money starting to mount up now especially with rising petrol pricesso i would say the cost does come into it

Default Cost

I know what you mean about the cost. I did the Lexus a few years running and that was working out at about £50.00 just to fish the first heat. Then it was all the traveling to the lake & the cost of practice days plus all the new flies i had to make & nearly all tied on international doubles! Phew, that's expense!.. But I did enjoy it and would recomend anyone else to at least do it once. It was a better experience that I thought it would be, I was surprised myself at how friendly everyone was & so might do it again! After all, it's all good fishing!..

P.S. There is not going to be a secondary qualifing round this year for the Bank International. All qualifiers from the first heats will go straight through to the final now!!
