Default COMMONWEALTH 2010 South African team fundraiser

Good day to all fellow fly fishers.
I am writing to all of you on behalf of the South African Fly fishing team, that has been selected to attend the 2010 Commonwealth fly fishing games in Wales.

As a team, we would love to attend, there is however one little drawback, preventing us from coming all the way from the southern tip of the African continent, to fulfill a dream.
That drawback, is the Rand Pound exchange rate. At the time of writing this, the exchange rate is almost 12 to 1. That is correct. All your friends and countrymen that will be comming to the 2010 Soccer World Cup, will have the time of their life at very favorable rates, R12,00 to 1 British Pound. Spare a thought for those of us who need to travel the other way.

Our team has decided, that if South Africa can host the 2010 Soccer World Cup, we can make a plan to go to Wales.

In order to help raise the finances required, we are selling guided fly fishing tours to South Africa. You will be guided by some of South Africa’s finest on these tours.

What does the fly fishing tour to South Africa offer you?

3 days of fly fishing for Small Mouth Yellows on the Vaal River. You will be hosted at Elgro River Lodge on the banks of the Vaal River, fishing for these yellow/golden colored submarines. Many fly fishers rate them 2 to 3 times as strong as trout.
You can read about them here.
Yellowfish in South Africa - Catch Yellow Fever - This highly contagious southern yellow fever is spread by waterborne organisms of the Labeo group of fishes commonly known as - Global FlyFisher
Or here
Henry Gilbey - Photo Essays - South Africa yellowfish

After the few days fishing for Small mouth Yellows you will either go and fish for Tiger fish Lake Jozini for 3 days.
For those who do not know Tigerfish, imagine fishing in the movies Jungle book or The Lion King. That is what it is to fish for Tigerfish. While you are on your boat, your spectators could be a Rhino or an Elephant, some antelope or a couple of crocodiles.
You can read about Tigerfish here
Tigerfish in South Africa - Tigerfish from my Verandah - Where are the days when tigers where tigers? - Global FlyFisher

Once you are finished with the Tigerfish, it is time to head South, to Cape Town.
To the city that many described as the “the most beautiful city in the world”
4 days of fly fishing at the southern point of the African continent.
These for days can be divided up to suit the fly fishers.
A day or 2 in the sea fly fishing for SHARKS
Fly fishing for sharks in South Africa - Sharks! Radical reef fly fishing. - A shark odyssey. - Global FlyFisher

Or you could spend all of the time fishing for trout on our wonderful trout streams.
A season or so ago, I took a fly fisher from the Ireland on our streams, read what he has to say here,
Cape Town trip

We can also do a day trip around the Cape Peninsula, on route we can visit the studio of one of the finest fish sculptors, Chris Bladen,
Fishy art: Chris Bladen - Fishy art - Global FlyFisher

Any of above mentioned legs can be exchanged for a trip to the Richtersveld National Park. Explore the Richtersveld
Richtersveld Transfrontier National Park - Official Site

The Richtersveld is on the border of Namibia, with the Orange River separating South Africa and Namibia, and is a World Heritage Site.
This is a trip for the someone who loves to camp and the outdoors (5 star camping facilities)
Experience this unique transfrontier park, while you fish for Small Mouth and Large Mouth Yellow fish. At night you will sit under a billion stars, looking for the Southern Cross. Experience Africa at its best, and most unique.

This tour includes any 3 of the 4 options mentioned.
a. Small mouth Yellow fish on the Vaal
b. Tigerfish on Lake Jozini
c. Fishing in the Cape (various combinations- trout, sharks etc)
d. Richtersveld National Park

A normal day’s guiding is approximately R1800,00 in South Africa. (that is 150 Pounds)
We are offering this trip to 10 discerning fly fishers at a very special price.
All accommodation, food and internal traveling included, plus all the guiding, by members of the South African team for only R18 000.00 Excluding flights to South Africa. This trip will cost you the same as just the guiding on such a trip.

This offer is for a minimum of 2 fly fishers per group, maximum 10 fly fishers.

That seems a pretty good deal!

Being South African by birth I know all too well how costly charters and guiding is in SA and that is a bargain.

There is also some seriously extreme fly fishing in the Cape Waters for huge Yellowfin Tuna (many world records are set and broken there) and Yellowtail too.

There are some lovely trout streams in the Cape and Drakensberg and some great stillwater fishing in Mpumalanga and KZN (Drakensberg) too.m

Whilst I cant take you up on this offer, I do wish you the best of luck in your endeavours.

regards

Ben

If a fly fisher wants to bring his wife along, that can be arranged.
Or 2 fly fishers, wants to bring their partners along, to keep each other company, while they fish, it will not be a problem.
For the ladies accompanying their husbands, the accomodation is luxury, with day spa facilities available at most venues.

Game drives, bird watching and hiking are also some of the activities for the non fishers.

If you are interested PM me with your details and I can provide you with more details.

Please forward this to any fly fisher who would be interested.

A really attractive price and I will make the trip one day - just not at the moment - it's disneyland holidays for me at the moment until the children get a bit older.

I'm one of the controllers on the Tal Y Llyn leg of the commonwealth championships so please make yourself known to me and we will keep in touch with a view to organising this trip of a lifetime at some time in the future.

I wish you all the best with your fundraising efforts and look forward to meeting you in June.

Gareth
