Default C&R Lough Conn spring international

The spring international on Lough Conn this May will be catch & release with the size limit starting at 30cms. I just want to put it to forum members who will be fishing on the day what are their views on the flies to be used. Should it be barbless/debarbed or barbed hooks.

Default Catch and release

Hi Joe ,

Iwill be fishing spring international on Conn and am happy with c+r as those wild browns are beautiful . As long as fish are measured accurately fished international on lough lene and was not happy killing them . The flies were barbed and the fish all went back fine so not a problem

What a great decision by the I.T.F.F.A and the host club at lough Conn. While there is a bag limit at the home internationals when fished in the U.k for farmed trout. Then it would be crazy not to have catch and release for the wild trout.

Hi gurn, hope you enjoy your visit to Conn yeh never know but i could boating you the final day. The reason i put up the post is that i feel c&r competition it should be barbless hooks, would i be right in saying in other international matches if there is a bag limit you go c&r after you reach it with debarbed hooks.

Before ADMIN has a chance to remove some posts...........I'll change my first post to anybody can reply

Go barbless/debarb, easier to return the fish.

As long as it is agreed well before the event and the teams are all informed no one can have any complaints.

Think you're jumping the gun a wee bit at the moment with that bold statement. The correspondence I've seen was sent out asking for our thoughts on the proposal etc. That proposal, as far as I'm aware came from the Conn and Cullin Club, to ITFFA for the consideration of the other three countries. As far as I know they haven't even met yet to fully discuss the issue.
Perhaps Waterlodge is privy to something I don't know, .....keep in mind, I only left a WSTAA meeting an hour ago. Maybe a touch of premature e---------- there young man.

Hi George, it's nice to be called young as i'm the same age as yourselfbut my statement isn't bold, it was agreed last thursday at a meeting of the C&C club that the comp be fished c&r and barbless or debarbed hooks. Today I get a "call" that some teams are not happy with barbless hooks as they already have there flies tied. As it stands now barbed hooks are alowed

Catch and Release is the only way to go on a Wild Trout Fishery, i for one won't mind come the 14th of May returning my catch to the Lough to live and fight another day.
