Default Scottish Team qualification

What would i need to do to start fishing qualifiers for the Scottish Team ?I am Scottish but live in Northern Ireland now, maybe this will rule me out by not living in Scotland anymore ?I'm not saying i would qualify but i would like to try all the same .

Hi Colin, unless things have changed since my time,it is neccesary to be the champion of your angling club or at least be in the top two or three.Your club mustalso be affiliated to SANA.

i think you need to be a member of sana then you have to fish various qualifiers to get to the final then top 15 rods r in the team not sure about number bud

so as long as you are a member os sana you can have a go a trying to get into the team by fishing the qualifiers. Sounds good as a scot by birth id rather try that than fish for the other lot just because i live down here now

If its the home internationals, you would have to join a club who was a member of SANACC. Each member club can nominate 3 members for loch national, not sure if there is a restriction on numbers for rivers. Up to the member club who they nominate, most do it based on performance in their club comps.
Once nominated, you have to fish heat. Top 40% to 50% go through to a semi, top 30%+ qualify for final. Top 18 from final (usually around 60 rods) are in the team for one of the home internationals the following year. Can be more than that if less than 10 get a carryover place from the current internationals.
Nationality/residence not an issue but I would imagine the logistics will be.
If you are long term in Ireland might be better trying to qualify for them. However, once you have fished for one country you can't normally fish for another but think that can be waived in exceptional circumstances. Not sure if it ever has been.

John has given a good explanation there....

I can also add, we have an Englishman in our club that attempts to qualify for the Scottish team most years.. In fact he almost made it this year! He can fish for Scotland through residencey in the understanding he cant compete for any of the other national teams.....
I would very much encourage you to try the national scene Bear.... Most of the guys are spot on and you will learn loads. Its also a good time to get involved with the national team after Campbell Morgan managed them to a record breaking result......... Go on the Scots :-)
Hope this helps.
