Default Lough Conn Spring International 2010

A couple of pics of Lough Conn in its current condition....
Irish team have enlisted the local Inuits to help them with their fishing techniques.

In the interest of fairness for the event, I thought the other teams should be made aware of the conditions that they will face........this should get me good brownie points prior to the Autumn International.

It's Cloghans Bay from Padraic Kelly's shore alright, the lake has dropped about 6ft and has now frozen over. The main body of the lake is not frozen over just yet but if the current weather continues the whole lake will be frozen by next week.

I have no idea how it effects the fishing, I suppose it will take the water a long time to heat up for those who venture out in the early part of the season.

Not only will it be cold, but the water will be at summer level or lower by 10 days time at the current rate

The poor buzzers will want lagging jackets

Great pics of clochans bay....The freezing over wouldn't effect my catch rate from clochans all that much. I rarely ever took a fish from the bay anyhow...
Looking forward to fishing Conn again after a few years of a break, although i might wait till it thaws..

Cheers
JJ

You need to fish it early in the year JJ, it gets too shallow and heats up too much so the fish seem to move out of the bay from the end of May onwards....it holds a huge stock of trout in the early season and it has some great duckfly holes......one is named after Waterlodge
