Default Iain Barr gobsmacked

I read in this months trout fisherman that during this years world championships Iain Barr had to manoeuvre his boat around pleasure anglers anchored at the lake of menteith , this surely cant be right i've fished there for years and never seen any boats anchored and didn't think it was permitted .If this is the case then he would have every right to be gobsmacked could anyone who was fishing or involved shed any light on this
tight lines then slack

I read that same article Charlie, and wondered why 'Pleasure Anglers' were allowed to be fishing the same day as a competition, nevermind the World Championships?

Read this myself and thought if comp boys want a water to themselves why don`t they or the organisers book and pay for all the boats then. I seem to remember reading something similar on here regarding normal anglers anchored up during some comp on Rutland.(well i think it was Rutland anyway??)Perhaps one of you guys could explain why it`s not the case that all boats are booked out??cheers wee joey

why shouldn't they be fishing???? did the organisers book the lake exclusively???
if not its a business at the end of the day and they need to make money so it would be silly to turn business away just because a comp was on!!!!!bit of a bad attitude in my view as if it was not for the pleasure angler these fisheries would not be there as i'm sure the comps are not enough revenue to keep there doors open

You will be hard pushed to find an anchor at the Lake of Mentieth. Anchoring is one of those English things Just as fishing out the back of the boat is. In Scotland we call that trolling/cheating.

what a bizarre term 'pleasure anglers'.......... i would have thought even 'competition' anglers would derive some pleasure from fishing?

how inconsiderate of those 'pleasure' anglers to dare fish on the same water as 'competition' anglers.

a strange concept. who is the more 'worthy to fish'?

Hi Joey,

I think the Rutland incident you recall was during the 'Fry Bash' match, which at the end of the day has a winner, so would be safe to say it's a competition.

However, it isn't a serious match, and no complaints were made about to Chris, the match organiser, it's just not in the spirit of the match, and didn't really cause a problem... However, the thread about it may say otherwise.

Anyways, back to the thread topic, I was under the impression that if there was a match on, then no other anglers, wether boats were spare or not, couldn't or wouldn't be able to fish, therefore can't impede on the competition itself...

I think Jim, 3lbG, may have an answer to it?

Edit: I agree without non competition anglers, places wouldnt survive on competions alone.

Carl

I would have thought they, match organisers, would have booked the boats for the World Teams? Therefore, no spares for non competition anglers to impede on the bearing of the match?

I have fished the Lake on a very regular basis for many years as a pleasure angler and have yet to see a boat at anchor.
The Lake has become the top venue for stillwater competition angling in Scotland, so please spare a thought for all pleasure anglers on the Lake and what we have to put up with from the compy anglers - likely enough our date is at the weekend and after the intense pressure during some weeks of comps, by the time we get there for our pleasure day it has been increasingly noticeable that the fish have become hook shy by the jagging and release of so many fish during practice days. Comp day - I believe that the limit is set at 4 fish then C&R - its not uncommon to hear of anglers catching their limit then releasing a dozen or so.
Regardless of the comps, i still prefer the Lake to some of the Southern waters - at least you can have a free drift dont need to dodge several anchored boats, rudder fishers, sail boats and wind surfers, let alone the fast response boat.
Please remember, the Lake has "suffered" us pleasure anglers for many years and we have not had a complaint from them!
