Weather forecast has cheered up a bit now. Rain tonight, but should be all over by mid-morning, then bright sunshine and a stiff-ish SW breeze...Not as warm as today, but without the strong gusts of wind we've been experiencing recently.

Check out the speed these lows are sucking the cold air of the North Sea!
Met Office: British Isles: Infrared satellite imagery

Meteorological hat now taken off.

Fished the bank near the church, moved to fantasy, then came back to the church. Had a fish come and look at a Minky Booby, it didnt like the look of it and swam off the other way.

I couldnt stay for the meal and presentation, when I left Rob Edmunds was ahead at the weigh in.

Rob won by a country mile. No idea where he was fishing. I weighed in a pair for sixth, but gallingly dropped 3! at the net, hey ho, that's fishing. Fished the point at East Creek, floating line and little black lures very slow.

I fished 50m to the left of the lodge..(just before Cripple Creek)....It started off ok as the wind was right to left (ish) and I had 3 nice fish; Garry Cooper also had 2 there and Graham Pearson 1 (and a 7lb Brown) and Keith Jones 1....all by 10am..

Then the wind picked up and swung in (so it was almost a head wind there), the water became coloured up to 20 yards out and it got difficult.

We all stuck it out there....basically as we had no idea where else to go.....I managed to pick up another 3 by 3pm...with just the odd pull in between...

I fished 2 Straggle Hummungus's on a 12ft leader (5ft and 7ft)on a Sixth Sense Floating Line...but I'd degreased the tip and belly of the line so with the heavy flies it sort of sat about 1-2ft under the waves ...wasn't effected so much and let me stay in contact with the flies.....The running line was left floating...bit of a wierd set up ....but I love it from the bank.

The day Before I'd caught all the way from East Creek to Normanton; on a T-11 head (fast Sinker)....Cat booby at 4ft and a minkie booby at 9ft. Throw it as far as possible and just tweek it back after 30 seconds....they loved it.....I tried it on the match day; especially when the wind picked up but nothing; which surprised me as it easily gave me another 10-15 yards of fishing in clear water.

The conditions helped me big time....If the wind hadn't swung round there would have been a lot of bag ups from East Creek to Normanton as it's stuffed with fish.

I think the fish followed the flies in the clear water and took them just before they got to the coloured water...as they thought they might escape..

Rob Edmunds of South Luffenham wins Rutland Water's popular Fur & Feather (and gets to meet Santa!)

Rutland Water’s Fur and Feather match, fished on Sunday 6 December, was a great success. The winner was Rob Edmunds of South Luffenham. Rob’s six fish weighed in at 14lb 11oz, a commanding lead over second placed Vakis Paisaskeva with 4 fish for 8lb 6oz and Clive Wilkins who took third. The best fish of the match was a 3lb 8oz Rainbow taken by John Vincent. Santa took time out of his busy schedule to pay a visit. Well stocked seasonal hampers were presented to the highest placed anglers and the day was rounded off with an excellent Christmas meal served at the Water’s Edge restaurant at Rutland Water fishing lodge.
1st Rob Edmunds 6 fish for 14lb
2nd Vakis Paisaskeva 4 fish for 8lb 6oz
3rd Clive Wilkins 3 fish for 8lb
4th Dan Perks 3 fish for 6lb 7oz
5th Iain Barr 2 fish for 5lb 7oz
6th Matt Gregory 2 fish for 5lb 6oz

Matt Bell, from Magdalene College, Cambridge, has only been fishing for six weeks, since attending an Anglian Water Beginners course. Matt had a brilliant trip to Rutland this week, taking Rainbows of 7lb 3oz and 4lb 3oz.
