Heavy Rain

Affecting: Central and eastern Scotland, along with parts of northern England

This is an update to the Severe Weather Warning first issued by Metcheck at 20:07 on Wednesday 02nd September 2009, this update issued at 06:18 on Thursday 03rd September 2009.

Outbreaks of heavy rain associated with the remnants of ex-Tropical Storm Danny have been moving north-eastwards across much of Britain and Ireland during the last 24 hours.

This band of heavy rain is now moving across into northern England, as well as into central, southern and eastern Scotland, and will then become very slow moving over these areas during Thursday and into Friday.

Rainfall totals of around 50mm are likely in some of the above areas during Thursday and Friday, with up to 75mm falling in some localised locations. This will bring the risk of localised flooding as well as making travelling conditions hazardous.

A1 closed for 25 miles due to flooding in the borders.
