My understanding of it Sfinn is that only 4 trout 13 inches or over may be kept as that is the bag limit as set by the Lough Owel Angling club and that Leinster TAFI are respecting their rules. Any trout under 13 inches are to be released. This was the same ruling in the Leinster TAFI Provincial Final.

I think all Anglers will be happy to catch 4 trout which will be browns as there is very few rainbows if any left in the lake. Once the boats are on the lake after a few drifts the browns may be put down anyway so anyone catching 4 keepers will be doing very well and should be well happy.

Hi Oakham Orange,

There is a max of 20 anglers from each of the 4 Provinces. There is 19 qualifiers from Leinster, Munster will have the full 20, Connaught will have up to 20, Ulster have about 6 I think, I don't think they have the full compliment of 20 anglers.

So all in all I'd say 60 to 65 anglers.

Hey Burt (sorry i just sounded like Ernie out of seasamie street)

Cheers for the info. How does that work then. To be a fair match surely ALL teams would have to have the same number of anglers competing.

Good luck to all. Love to get a full set of results posted on here.

Yeah OO,

Got plent of slagging in school over that OO and to make it worse I used to sit beside an Ernie in school so you can imagine.

Indeed to be a fair match all Provinces should have 20 anglers on their teams but I know that in Leinster only 19 anglers caught trout on the day of the Leinster Qualifiers (that's trout 13 inches or over) so only that 19 can the fish the Inter-Provincials. Munster always get their 20 qualifiers from Lough Leane. I'm not sure about Ulster and where they held their qualification but I think only a handful of anglers qualified.

Ideally you'd have 4 teams of 20 but that very rarely happens if ever. On the Inter-Provincial Rivers final next Saturday there are only 6 qualifiers from Leinster, 16 from Munster, with maybe only a handful from Connaught and I don't know if Ulster have anyone so a handy win for Munster I think.

Doesnt seem fair on some of the weaker provinces with literally a handful of anglers.

I know the ITFFA Interprovincial ALWAYS has 18 anglers on each team and ALL 72 anglers turn up on the day making it a very fair match.

Hi Hobble,

I didn't realise there were many rainbows left. There was none caught in the Leinster qualifiers anyway only browns. When was the last time it was stocked with rainbows as I thought only browns were being stocked the last few years?

TAFI are to clarify, all TAFI competitions are catch and release, therefore no need for a bag limit. I will say no more on the matter until it is clarified from top table.
