Default RNLI Mankini Fundraiser - BIG PROBLEM!!!!

Hi Folks,

not quite sure where to start.

I posted about 30 chequers on Wednesday 29th July by recorded delivery. They did not arrive for over a week and when they did, the envelope was badly damaged and there was only one check for a small amount in the envelope.

I've been in touch with the post office and without going into details, they are a complete waste of time and getting to speak to a human as opposed to an automated telephone system was an ordeal in itself!

All the cheques were payable to RNLI, however I've been advised to advise you to cancel your cheque. If it has been cashed, your bank can provide you with a copy of the cheque and you can see if the recipients name has been tampered with and fraudiently cashed. If it has I'm afraid you need to contact you're bank and report the matter to the police. (Hopefully it hasn't, the cheque I wrote to cover the cash raised was not cashed).

If it has not been cashed, to be on the safe side it is best to telephone your bank and stop the cheque.

If you would like to continue with your donation, I will collect cheques and you can post them to me at:

Simon Newman
47 Chalsey road
Brockley
London
SE4 1YN

Please make them payable to Blyth RNLI.

Fortunately, the largest cheque was written by myself covering the cash collected and I've been able to post Shiela another cheque for £520.

c'est la vie

Simon.

Not sure if cancelling a cheque is free? Certainly on one of my accounts it costs £10.00 per cheque!

Best of luck with that, and good for you on the fundraising. I sea fish myself from my boat and it is nice to know the RNLI are there in the event of trouble.

That was his team mates doing the tucking in Andy but they're used to it.

On a serious note, I am really gutted about this as I have already explained to Simon. It's not the first time Royal Mail have had things stolen (NOT LOST) and if you can't trust good old Postman Pat to get something delivered then what has become of them?

In my mind the police should investigate anyway and at least take it out of the hands of Royal Mail who as Simon says are next to useless in these situations. It was recorded and there should be a line of people that handled/could have handled it and got their grubby little fingers inside.

I'll give you another cheque at Rutland at the weekend Si for the same amount but for those who weren't charged you were lucky. It cost me an extra tenner to cancel mine so you can stick your black and white cat up your ar5e Pat and I hope your red van hits a tree!!

Please don't let this put people off donating a second time to the Mankini fund as we've all had a real good laugh at Simon's expense already. Maybe a bit of bad news will eventually turn into a fund even bigger and better than before. I hope so.

All the best

Mike Le Lacheur (Gillaroo)
