Default lough melvin open fishing comp

Anyone that is fishing this comp might be in for a surprise i was talking to someone and apparently you wont be allowed fish half the lake as there is some row going on does anyone know anything about this as i think it is very unfair on anglers who are fishing this not to know anything about this until the day they arrive

I have heard whispers that there is a dispute as to the competition not having a bag limit. The connaught cup had a 5 bag limit with additional fish weighed as .75ilbs.One of the other clubs has objected to this hence if things stay as they are it is looking like the shoreline from rossinver all the way to near farrells bay past rooskey point will be out of bounds...

Not the first time ive heard this over the last few years. But normally it is sorted out before the start of a competition.

Hopefully the same will happen this year.

How can they make any part of Melvin out of bounds, except of course Rossinver which is private, the rest of the lough on the southern side is state owned and belongs to the people of the state not any club as far as I am aware so how can a club dictate where you can and cant fish. I don't think any club owns the northern side of the lough either though I could be wrong. This sounds like a right f**k up and looks like it will make b**ls of the comp. Would be nice to get the facts.

Hopefully it will be but there are 2 problems here the first is as its a boat competition if there is a limit set which i hope there is for the sake of the lough all boats will have to be manned with stewards if possible. The second is if the limit is not how is non fishing going to be inforced, some think this will be ignored by visiting anglers but upheld by local anglers who would obviously be expected to by there clubs giving the other anglers advantage...the sooner it is sorted the better but it looks messy at the mo

I was told the other day that rossinver have the rights as far up as near farrells bay and that garrisson have the rights in the northern third, i dont know only passing on what i was told.

Ive heard a complete ban of Rossinver waters to competitors will be in force on the days. Thats from below just Brefnie pier to more or less the border river at Garrison. No gillaroo will count, but there was talk the comp was going to be fished in Garrison waters only thats from Garrison to before Maguires. No mention of the southern portion of the water.
Its not looking like there is going to be any change to the Rossinver decision.

How can that be policed

So if im out in the comp and drifting down the deeps out in the middle of the lough from maguires to rosses point, will there be someone out chasing me. I dont think so, and I can tell you what they will be told, if they do.

Is Rossinver fishery going to put out markers showing anglers were they are NOT allowed to go.

There could also be a massive safety issue here. If you get a big 35mph -40 mph South Westerly blowing (like 3 years ago) and a lot of the boats have to head for the South West side of the Lough for shelter, are the Rossiver guys going to kick out the anglers and tell them they have to go and fish in water where it may be unsafe. If they do, are they prepared to accept responsibility for the death of one or more anglers.

Why not let the comp run as normal (without Gillaroo) and spend the next year trying to sort out issues before the 2010 Melvin Open. Surely that would be sensible.

I beleive it's all about wanting a 5 fish limit put on each angler. Well the way Melvin is fishing, there wont be too many boats coming in with more than 10 fish. In fact I would reckon there wont be any.

So at the end of the day,all this fuss could be about nothing.

I still reckon it will be sorted out before next weekend and everyone will enjoy it like every year.

As long as they dont put restrictions on how much beer I can drink in Micky Gilroy's and the Riverside Bar.

Yes I agree, unless there is a dramatic change, 5 fish in the boat between BOTH anglers and you'll be very happy

It's going to be hard, very hard...typical lough fishing IMO

I say fill Melvin to the brim with big bows!!!!!

(then again I couldn't catch them on Lene last week either)

Its the same for everybody sure...and its the taking part that counts

Tight lines all
