Just as a bit of fun I was wondering (if any) what rituals other competitors have before or during a comp?

My personal one is to wash my hands in the water before my first cast... or at regular intervals during the day if it's a bad one

When we are away with the team, generally we always drink 12 pints of beer the 1st night we are away. In the morning I usually put my right shoe on my left foot then take two paracetomol. At breakfast I turn down the fried bread. I then drive very slowly to the lake. I drink several mugs of tea and a strong coffee and take several bottles of diet coke out with me. I then average one wee every hour and a half which usually results in my boat partner tactfully enquiring about my blood sugar levels and diabetes.

If it's a two day comp, just repeat on the second morning.

As I fish in the same team as Bewl Geordie, I too have 12 pints of beer on the first night - no less and no more than the 12 pints. If extra alcohol is still required it is a tradition to have a few double Irish Whiskeys and talk total b*ll*x for the rest of the evening.

On the morning of the match I help BG into his mankini and making sure both his technicals are tucked in safely and out of sight. At breakfast I eat the fried bread that BG has refused and always have jam on my sausages.

The last thing I do on Match day - and this is really important to me - is to make sure I'm in the boat before it leaves the jetty.

DRINKING before a match ....never. morning of the match im up at 5am and go for a run along the dam wall and back....At this stage i start sweating like a pig and relise it was all a dream, still ****** from the night before......My six pack was built on beer and greasy food.

Err... I think it's called a Party Six, not a six pack.

P.S. I always like to hum 'See the Pyramids Across the Nile' and then time how long it takes before my boat partner starts whistling it. Fred Bainbridge is the current record holder at about 20 minutes.

I find that once it gets into their head they can't really concentrate properly on the fishing any more.
