Default Lexus Individual Championship

I fished the Brenig heat a few weeks ago and at the end of the briefing JH announced that only the top 2 rods would qualify along with the captor of the biggest fish. There were a few moans and groans and TBH I was a little bemused that so few would go through to the final but at the time put it down to the poor turnout and that JH worked on percenatages of approx 10% - i.e the top 10% rods at all heats qualify + the wild card biggest fish.

I was talking to a mate of mine last week who mentioned he'd heard that there were similar numbers at another heat where 5 people qualified. So tonight I did a bit of research (info taken from fishypics website) and was a little shocked at what i found:

Eyebrook 32 anglers – 6 qualified = 18.75%
Pitsford 20 anglers – 4 qualified = 20%
Carsington 23 anglers – 5 qualified = 21.7%
Grafham 31 anglers – 6 qualified = 19.3%
Rutland 22 anglers – 5 qualified = 22.7%

BRENIG 24 anglers – 3 qualified = 12.5%

I was unable to find any info on any other heats.

Have the people who finished 3rd, 4th and maybe even 5th at Brenig been done over??

This is not a moan because I missed out - I don't think I would have made the top 10 but I feel for the people who may have missed out (unfairly in my view)

Would it not be simpler (and fairer) to say there are 100 places available at the final, there are 20 heats so the top 4 anglers + wild card biggest fish qualify from every heat regardless of numbers entered?

Now if I was sceptical I might say that this looks like favouritism towards the English heats??

Discuss.

I see your point Bruv but that is just the way it is see, we don't really want your kind crossing the border and worrying our sheeps. Bristol water and the council want thems guest houses and pubs filled up over the grand final weekend, people spending money, not lay-bys full of caravans with the inhabitants sticking to the national dish of pot noodle, issit.

In fact, next season, I hear the winners of the heats on Brenig and Landegfod or whatever the fek you call it will be doing a fish off together, so you wogs only get one place in the final.

'bout time too and all that.

Pip pip!

There are 21 heats but the question is a valid one. Why not email John and ask him? It does look odd and the tournament could do with a bit of transparency.

Do you know how many fished at Llandegfedd and how many qualified from that? Looking at John's web page there were only nine catchers.

I agree, valid question that needs to be put to JH for his view on the matter.

Show him your stats and see what he has to say.

Let us know what happens.

I'll be seeing him at Draycote on Saturday so will ask the question then.

PP - we like crossing the border sometimes for a bit of easy sport - your sheep are much easier to catch than ours - a bit like fishing for stockies!!!

Right must go, bags to pack for my trip into the unknown over the border.

Note to self - must remember to pack the velcro gloves!!!!!

Looks like the Brenig heat have had a raw deal especially when you look at the Rutland results/stats. I fished that heat and failed to qualify although I got my 8 fish by 2.15, the interesting fact that I'm leading to is Richard Slater qualified having caught the biggest fish!! Not quite true, it was actually 4th or 5th biggest but he went through due to pre qualifications. I missed out by 4oz I think.

Can I just wish all quilifiers the best of luck for the final, both individual and team and I hope to see you all in next years event.

Andy

You are quite right to highlight seemingly unfair situations like this - people are paying good money to compete on what they think is a level playing field.

24 fished the Draycote heat on Friday with 2 qualifying outright + wild card biggest fish.

Floating line comp on Saturday had 26 anglers (6 of which had pre qualified) with 2 qualifying outright + wild card biggest fish.
