Default Question...... now think about it??

Can you fish within the rules with the engine 'running'??.... I'm not talking about the motor being in 'gear'.... I'm talking 'static' but running... ? Make sure your answers are well founded and correct.

this was put to me last week by Bugsy..

I guess so Martin, as the boat is not under power. But why would you want to?

May I add a thought here?

I think there may be a case to allow this given how many times I have read about the crowds and dangerous behaviour of some anglers when boats and comps mix.

Therefore, in a crowded drift, it may prove safer to have your engine running to allow emergency manoeuvring.

this is probably allowed- its likely that it is some trickery to fool trout, I remember he had all sorts of little dodges to get you extra fish.

maybe the fish drop their guard because they think you will be setting off any minute

Interesting point indeed! There are several competition anglers who positively encourage the camera boat to appear during a competition. Not as you may think for egotistical reasons, but because as soon as the boat, be it the rescue launch or fishing boat appears, they instantly hook into a fish. This has happened more times than I care to remember, but it does beg the question does a running engine make a difference...ask Frank Sumnall?

I wonder if that's coz there not doing out so they welcome the mini aerator in to stir things up a bit.......... which could then be classed as an additional aid.......................... that could be considered as CHEATING

If i'm up close and personal with a pod........... all you'll get from me is a polite two fingers.....

The answer to you question Mart........ is without checking page 6,232, pargraph 4............. i havn't got a clue
But, when the drift is set........ and your fishing, the engine should be cut.

All depends on the rules for that particular fishery or comp. If in doubt get clarification.

Down to interpretation of the wording of the rules.

If it's a very windy day and the fish are hard on the bank.....in my opinion it would make sense to start the engine and continue fishing; rather than to get washed up .

I can't see a problem with it...

Reason?..I'm informed there is no rule on this...... interesting tho?.... safety?... a quick manouvre?.. I doubt it will really put fish on or off.... I was also told by a scuba diver that the sound of an engine is only heard when directly on top of them.... fish hear differntly tho.... dont they??

Another reason?... Its Sunday and I'm bored!!!!

Nonsense mate... sound travels about a zillion times better in water than air.
