Default Sage Z Axis or Loomis GLX

I am getting into competition fishing and was looking at buying a new rod. I have been tossing up between the Sage Z Axis 10' 8wt or the same in the Loomis GLX.

Any ideas?

Loomis GLX #8 will load better with a #9 line.

So bare that in mind. Others may agree with me too, but we'll see .
An #8 maybe fine the way it is as it's heavy enough I own a #6 for all my #7 lines

I use the Platinum XD because I find it suits my casting style. So my advice would be which ever one suits you best chap, try before you buy!!

i have been using Loomis glx for several years, firstly the original glx, and the past couple of years i have bought a couple of native run and i must say i was pretty happy with them. Happy that is until i bought a Sage TCR.

In my opinion the TCR is a far superior rod to both the GLX and the Z axis.. But i would also say that i feel that the z axis is a better rod than the GLX.

I find the GLX to be a bit heavy and also not quite stiff enough...
Also, i have the 7 weights and i recon that this would suit any competition fishing. The 8 weight might be over gunning it a wee bit...

I agree with James, try both rods as one may suit your style better.

be sure to buy online where you will save a packet....

cheers
JJ

Tcx 10' #7 will do it all or the helios 10' #7

i should say that the reason that i found the tcr so amazing was that i was fishing in NZ at the time i bought it and it was an absolutely essential piece of kit for casting into the wind.. The GLX was totally incapable of presenting a good line into a stiff breeze. after buying the TCR it was totally different, and accounted for me at least doubling my catch rate.. I am talking about literally scores of fish that i couldn't possibly have taken with the GLX...maybe even a hundred!!! and some of them were big.... and very big...

saying that, if you are just fishing from a drifting boat then this may not be quite as pertinent...

cheers
JJ

Davenz, If you are talking about comp fishing on the rezzies in the UK, I would recommend an 8#. Its an essential piece of kit for pulling etc. I have both the z-axis and glx 8#. I think the z-axis is a weapon. I've only just purchased the glx and haven't given it a go yet. When I do the other is being put up for sale!

I load the 8# with 8/9 lines. I learned a valuable lesson in an international back in '95 when I used 6 and 7# and spent most of the day taking tangles out of my sinking lines in a wind!

Hope this helps!

Many of us like the glx distance......... however the down side is the replacement cost........ people are not happy regarding breakage fees........ also one issue i havn't heard brought up to often........ is the poor rod rings.. they let this top of the range power monster down..... they wear quick.

IMHO the Loomis GLXD is not a fishing rod, its a casting tool, the GLX Anti-Gravity is quite superb and superior to the Z-Axis.

See, several differing opinions so far on all three models.

Now go and try before you buy, see what suits you best, not us.

I agree entirely with the Pirate. The Z Axis doesn't have the back bone to get fish over about 2.5 pounds in quickly and is inferior in every way to the XP ,which it replaced .Look at the number of scarcely used ZA rods you see for sale that should tell you something. The standard GLX 10 foot in 7 weight is the best reservoir rod bar none IMHO. Try before you buy or you may find yourself offering a "mint"or " used twice" etc rod in the classifieds.
