Default measuring fish in comps good or bad?

I notice that some competitions are now using length of fish rather than fish caught or weight bonuses to gain results for competitions.

Im interested what people think about it?

My personal feeling on it is measuring a fish which is flapping about and then returning it causes it alot more stress than just releasing it and gaining a bonus. On the other hand length measure does add a bit more challenge and fairness. Its just the return and handling while measuring that is a problem.Unless held in a net(oops).

Taking and killing fish for weigh in and then binning them later, as no use for them is becoming slowly a thing of the past and is a waste.

Does anyone have any ideas for a good way for a compy to be fair for anglers taking part and good for fish aswell ?

I agree its a hard task.

Point for fish caught, regardless of size.

You would then need a decider. as many will catch thr same amount.

Ah, I see the flaw in my theory. In that case the Welshman would win.

Or paper scissors stone?

What about a golden fish ,like the ones who are equal, go down and fish on and first to catch a fish and lands it wins.

There is a possibility of the comp running on extremely late then. Would it not be better to log the time the fish were caught, then in the event of a tie, the one who caught his amount soonest would be the winner?

Good to see mostly constructive replies
Log the time of the first fish caught, earliest in session then wins.

Competition is good for the soul and an enjoyable day out if taken the right way and can only say that Sweethope was a fine example of what it should be about.Brilliant day and with likeminded folk.
But solution to the" how " is staring us in the face here, but what does everyone think .have we found it or not.?
