Default I'm convinced....

When I pleasure fish.... I 'fish' differently.... I'm talking on the reservoirs... unless I'm in a competition.... discuss.

I would say that's my experience as well. Relaxed not bothered in non comp fishing .plugged into the mains before and during a comp.

Default As Shakespeare put it......

"happyness is a rod in your hand" - remember the 1980's T-shirt ??

Not sure..... I personally can't switch off the competative side of me when on the reservoirs.....

When i fish the rivers..or even go sea fishing i find i enjoy it much more.....strange eh.....

I think it's because i know that i can always catch on the reservoirs....yet on the sea or river it's still much more of a mystery..

for me skip it's all trout fishing, i just chill out, it was one of the things that I missed when I did match fish, just switching off. Now Ive been away for a few years I miss the buzz and certainly miss the crack of matching. might have to come back next year!

I like that one Jim

Comps can be stressful, especially when conditions don't suit your favourite m.o. and you have to 'adapt'. Nothing sweeter though when the conditions suit and you can fish as you would for pleasure.

When I was a bit younger and still involved in the competition scene,I used to fish with the same intensity whether I was in a match or not...because I just wanted to catch as many fish as I could every time I went fishing.....
The only difference between the two was the prep work before a match.
I probably had more of a laidback approach to competitions than some 'cats on a hot tin roof' boat partners Ive had in some matches.Too much adrenaline can be counter productive in some instances.....

I always went out on the water determined to beat the fish....,doing better than my boat partner was never uppermost in my mind, believe it or not.

Hi Martin

"Pleasure" is the key word. I fished the Anglian at Bewl the other week with a well-regarded angler and for a short time the fish really switched on to the dries. He commented it would be great doing this on a pleasure day and all I said was, "it is a pleasure day." I think whether you are in a comp or not you have to take "pleasure" in fishing or we would all be climbing the walls.

I don't think my overall outlook on a day changes but I probably swear more when in a comp! Tactics remain pretty much the same but there's also pleasure to be gained trying something new off the vice or testing a new method that you can't do in a comp situation.

Cheers

Gillaroo

Im just starting to get more involved in the comp scene and loving it. Trouble is now, when I go 'pleasure' fishing I find I cant relax and have to be catching more than any one......(which doesnt happen often)

I agree with Martin there is definitley not the same intensity goes into my pleasure or practice days, but as Jim says I am plugged into the mains on match day.

I enjoy all aspects of the fishing from researching the weather conditions, tying up some flies and preparing my kit for a three or four day trip. Its all good

With me it's defo. a psychological thing, wether i can be arsed or not , if i'm up for it then i'm up for it, if i'm not then i'll just go through the motions.
