Default COMPETITION fly line range advice

Mow many lines does the comp boat angler need
I have no problems casting my current rods are z axis 10 foot 7wt
Hardy elite 10 foot 6 inches on 7/8wt

I use 7wt rods as a rule and have the following

floating wf 7
intermediate wf 7
di3 wf
sinking standard wf

I also have
an xp 1005-4 with wf 5wt floating line for lighter dry fly work doubles czech nymphing

considering a very slow sink line any thought welcome

Depends what you mean by "need" ?

Some have more than twenty, I have eight but that's because my spools are very expensive

Thanks Jim & charlie
I can see a bank raid in the offing !!!

I am just getting started on boat fishing but have quite hit and miss
reading Stan Headly and Dennis Moss and learning from scratch+
I have depth issues hence the line assortment question
last time out i assumed my failing was the fish were on the fin and I was fishing just below the zone on a di 3 floating or very slow sink would have been better.

got you on the sweep lines Jim!

I can hold my own on the rivers no problem but have been fishing more and more still water outings.

Weather plays imo a far more important part on still / loch fishing than the river scene as dirty turbid rivers usually is the only set back that produces a blank for me. although a nor'easter does put em down on rivers as well

Budget wise look at what I have and consider another three lines for my needs
sspools plus lines £70 each so currently i can only afford another 3 for the time being

Jim

Gotta have a Cortland Blue in there somewhere! Brilliant lines indeed.

Sadly, first time out on H'field and I started the engine with my line trailing out the side of the boat and i stupidly swung the engine over the wrong way and promptly stalled with a meter of my beloved Cortland wrapped around the prop.

Lesson one learned the hard way

Ben

Over years you pick lines up some have thier day I carry 24 lines I won't list them but I would say twelve of them don't see the light of day. As has been suggested the Cortland Blue is pretty indespensable in my opinion, and I would not be without the complete range of sixth sense lines (except the floater it's pants).

I would not recommend going out and buying a load of new lines in a oner rather get a line and get confidence fishing with it.

My line collection has grown usually after getting a good thrashing by a boat partner I have gone and got the same line. Now I have been at it for a while I think my collection of lines is complete, some ware out quicker than other though and should be replaced.
