Right were do i start

i went down last week to lough lene for the first time to get to know the water a bit before my comp when we got there we drove to a bit of the lake were you could see most of it, there were thousands of buzzers on and above the water and the water was crystal clear and when we got onto the water we found a spot were the fish were going mad i was in the boat wit lilolil and my dad and firey were in another lil set up with buzzers and emergers and i set up with a sunburst blob on a 18ft leader i was into a nice rainbow after 5 mins lost it then lost another after and then landed the 3rd one a nice rainbow about 2lb which had a mark on it were i think a heron had a go at it.

Not long after lil hooked into a fish on an emerger and lost it after this the fish stopped feeding for a while then when we moved away they were up again. At lunch time we were on 1 each lil with a brown and me with a rainbow. After lunch we headed to a spot we had seen a few fish in the morning lil was soon into a fish followed by another all being brownies then i hooked into one on an epoxy buzzer. we drifted this spot a few times moved to another spot then got moved back and we both got two fish on our first cast back were we had the fish earlier mine being a nice over wintered rainbow of 3 1/2 lb we got another few each then as we got further down the drift we got a few browns we both ended up with 7 each 4 rainbows and 3 browns each. Most the fish were on cormorants and buzzers.

On the practice day before the comp i got 4 and lil got 2 he was 2 nil up untill about 12.30 on cormorants 1 brown an a rainbow i seen a fish rise and covered it but lost it. About ten mins later i hooked into a small rainbow about 1 1/2lb a few mins later i got another followed by another two a nice brown and a cracker rainbow about 4lb, i got my fish on fu blobs and cormorants, i got four fish in about and hour. Then nothing the rest of the day we left the lake at 5.30

The biggest fish in the lake

On the day of the comp we started at 11am and finished at 5 i had nothing half way through and was starting to feel the pressure  we went to a bay that i hadnt seen anyone fish most the day so we tried it first drift i got two fish in 2 casts two nice brownies i had nothing the rest of the day and in the last half hour i hooked into another nice brown i finished with three hard caught fish the weather for the day was great but not so good for the fishing and an east wind didnt help out of 70 20 of us got 33 fish and the top ten qualified for the 2010 team to fish over in england four fish won the comp and the biggest fish was a 45 cm rainbow caught by maddys nephew and he got into the team. the fish on the day were measured and released my overall length was 106 cm. I had a great time and it was good experience for me unforunately my boat partner didnt get any fish. I told him what i was catching on and he tried them for a while then he kept in changing his flies. Id like to thank paul my gillie for keeping me in the drifts i wanted and for rowing most the day as i seen a few gillies letting the boats drift away into the lake
