Default Hooks: What model / brand hook do you use?

Hi there guys,

this is probably a personal preference type of question: But was wondering what type / size of hook you use for your competitions when pulling streamers.. I've been using the B175 12/10/8 and putting a little recurve in the hook..

Cheers

Why, what is the point in that?

Why not simply purchase a hook that is designed with a curve, such as a B110?

Streamers? I take it you are not a UK compo? They are just called lures over here. I personally wouldn't use any curved hook on my lures.

We can't use B175s in an #8 here, does not fit in the comp gauge, which is maximum 5/8ths of an inch, unless you put a curve in it as you suggested, although I don't know anyone who would bother doing it on that particular hook, more hassle than it is worth.

That said, I do know of some that bend down the eye on certain hooks to get them to fit the gauge, although am still in the mindset that there is no point, simply purchase a hook of a legal design and size and get tying, instead of all that fannying about.

As it happens, I use H761 in #10 and #12, H387 in #10 and #12 and B982 in #6 for almost all of my flies.

Tightlines!

Why would you wish to''recurve'' a B175.

standard lures B175 ,10-12
blobs B982 ,6-8-10
buzzers B110 ,10-12

The theory that the hook drives into the fish when there is pressure on the hook. The hook doesn't go past parrellel and in theory you loose less fish.. Correct me i'm wrong.

cheers

Not me Carl no mate, I only tie Cormorants on H761s.

The only thing I tie on curved hooks are Snatchers etc. I even prefer to tie the majority of my Buzzers on straight shanks.
