Yesterday I took my dog, Milly for a walk round the lake in preparation for today's C&R Spring Challenge event, a week before the Airflo on the same venue.

She jumped in while chasing moorhens and then shivered so much I had to take her home. Unfortunately, last night I contracted some sort of stomach bug so had virtually no sleep and felt weak and tired most of the first half of the match. Neverheless, at "half time" break, I had 4 which was pretty good. There was a 7 and a 5 fish and then a couple of us on 4.

My first two pegs after the break are in a decent area on wooden slatted platforms and, feeling as tired as I did, I took a plastic chair from the lodge and positioned it on the platform, so I could fish my nymphs slowly sitting down, as the fish are really close in (1-2 yards). On the first peg after lunch this was fine but on the next one the leg obviously slipped between the slats catapulting me head first and backwards into ten foot of water

Fortunately, I am an OK swimmer and paddled into standing depth and then was helped out by my nearest competitors. Needless to say, I now knew how Milly felt, and headed home without fishing the last two pegs

I can conform that the Snowbee Breeze Bloc jacket is pretty waterproof as my mobile, on an inside pocket, is still working albeit typing the wrong letters.........

Charlie

PS. Looks like I'll have to get a lifejacket like the one Milly is modelling in my avatar. She was not wearing it yesterday - bad girl !

I thought you had snagged some new super fly Charlie and was trying to get it back!

John Upcott won with 8 fish, Neil Pinnington second with 6 including 1 of nearly 7lb me no where with 2.

Have the Undesirables peaked a week too early

Thanks for the concern guys - I came out unscathed and, incredibly, not even very wet. Sure my boots and legs were drenched as were my lower arms but I'm impressed that even after 30 seconds or so of total immersion my torso stayed dry.

Sadly the bug that struck is still aboard. While calling Bart to get the results, I just had to hang up and sprint to the bog

Oh Charlie...

I laughed so hard a mouth full of Jura went right up my nose!

It doesn't half sting though..

I'll probably be out on Grafham opening week. But not being as dedicated as you I think I'll just rely on surface signs rather than actually getting in though.
