Hi MM,

First one I know of is the Oughterard 50 Pairs Comp.

Its normally around end March early April. If the weathers right is can coinside with the Duckfly.

You and a partner enter as a pair. Its your combined weight over 2 days and a draw is done for boat partners each day.

Havent fished it in a couple of years but its not a bad comp with a Davison boat each for first prize.

There will probably be other comps before that on the Corrib. Im sure the lads from Corrib that are on here will help ya.

Irish Masters out of Greenfields used to be the dogs danglies, but it hasnt been fished for years now. Would be great if they could bring that back.

The Commercial boat club run the Spring time open on the first Sunday after Paddy's day from their club in Galway. Can be a good comp but the weather can play havoc at that time of year. The next one is the one in Oughterard around Easter. The old Irish Masters run out of Greenfields was by far and away the best of them but that is very unlikely to ever see the light of day again. To be honest on that side of the lough there's not much interest in running comps and killing wild fish at a time of year when there is large fly hatches and the potential to slaughter alot of fish. A Lot of anglers here want to see catch and release comps and until that happens then I think numbers will fall at these events.

Couldnt agree more mate.

C&R is definately the way to go. Unfortunately it is likely to be more expensive to enter as a referee would be needed in each boat.

Am I right in saying the World Cup committee is considering C&R

if you were paired with another angler who was not your partner, wouldn't that do? you could sign each others cards.
i know it relies on trust then.

Yeah Mike that has been done before in the Flextec Team Comp 2008 & in the Lexus Team Comp in 2007. It worked perfectly.

Unfortunately when there are BIG prizes up for grabs (Like Boats worth £2000 +) it is difficult to police everyone.

It only takes one bad apple.
