Default EXCITING NEWS - record thread!!

Last Saturday evening, sitting in the Brown Trout supping a fine ale (Becks),
following a cold, windy, damp and miserable days fishing at Bewl in The Charity Comp (Joel Beanie won with 8 fish, I had 4, rod average was 2 and my fly rods are now officially put away until the warm and balmy days of late March). The brainless and ugly Gillaroo had an idea. It was probably the 1st idea he has ever had. One would have hoped it would have been a fine world enhancing life changing revelation. Something to promote world harmony, free speech, end poverty; or at least make the value of my investments do something other than go down!
Unfortunately no.
“Why don’t we see who can start a thread over the winter and whoever has the most replies wins a pint”. Slurred a misty eyed Gillaroo.
“Great idea” I said. What could be more rewarding and enthralling over the next 5 months and help fill the void which is my cold, empty and seemingly pointless existence (ex-wife quote – unquote) than to stare at my computer screen thinking of threads to post!

Thinking little more of what I took to be a drunken conversation, I was somewhat surprised to receive a PM this morning from Gillaroo gleefully claiming to have started a thread in the “Viewpoint” section of this forum, entitled “Sack Em” asking people should Ross and Brand be sacked by the BBC. What interest could such a thread raise I thought. How many of the hundreds of articulate and intelligent anglers who visit this site would demean themselves by replying to such a pointless tabloid question so completely unrelated to fishing - or life itself to even warrant a second click of the mouse?
I had a quick look.
69 replies and extends to over 6 pages!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and growing by the minute!
Gillaroo blindsides me by finding a section of the forum our wives use when we relinquish our control of the keyboard. 69 replies about bloomin Ross and Brand!!!!
If it’s not already bad enough already that they are on the front of every newspaper and lead story on every news programme, they’ve taken over a fishing forum as well! What about the credit crunch! the bombing of Syria!! Missing children in Crawley!!!!? Real news effecting real lives, not some hyped up celebrity chennanigans that will result in millions more in the bank for Brand and Ross and a £500,000 newspaper exclusive for the little bloke from Fawlty Towers who has drifted in obscurity ever since and a strumpet of a woman who maskerades as an exotic dancer.
AND THERE IS A REAL DANGER THIS IS ALL GOING TO COST ME A PINT!!!!

I appeal, NAY, I beg, that the right minded of you out there in cyber wonderland reply to this thread. I don’t care what you say. Make it funny, make it sad, make it a wonderful story of your childhood beside the village pond catching your first fish. Make it a joke, make it a “Hello everyone have a great day”. Make it anything.
I beseech you as decent, honest, caring human beings. Do not leave this thread without posting a reply. My faith in humanity depends on it.

Default Oh dear

Simon, Simon, Simon.

If only I had started the thread you speak of I would surely be reaping the spoils of victory as I type. My thread has yet to surface but I find your attempt to grovel to all and sundrie and beg them to...

"...reply to this thread. I don’t care what you say. Make it funny, make it sad, make it a wonderful story of your childhood beside the village pond catching your first fish. Make it a joke, make it a “Hello everyone have a great day”. Make it anything..." very sad.

Surely this thread and it's placement in Competition Fly Fishing holds no interest with the completely sane and articulate competition anglers we hold in such high esteem.

Best regards and mine's a pint of Harveys!

Gillaroo

Don't you guys realise that all you need to do is start a thread where you and a handful of mates swap inane drivel over the next six months.

Hang on, that's already been done
