Default Stillwater to Reservoir

Wanted to get peoples opinions on something someone said to me recently. During a conversation with a competition angler he said to me that in his opinion if you fished comps on small stillwaters there was no point in even going in for things like the Leus/AWFM as you would be outclassed and also not have enough gear. What do you all think?

i think he's a plonker putting it nicley.
i have seen loads of top rods getting beat by people that are new to boat fishing, having loads of gear has little to do with it.

yes he's a plonker but you do need some extra gear sometimes, dont know what you have but here's something to get started but not a must

10' rod 7/8
few lines like floater, di3 di7 di5 inter should get you started and flies to international rules

dont know if thats the sort of gear you have and thats only a guide as you can go on forever

hope this helps

I agree with neil here and will say that if you look at the top comp anglers thye all started wwith limited gear and most not all I suspect started on stillwater comps and progressed from there ,building up both knowledge and tackle along the way.Nobody should feel because of the tackle they have they should feel any less an angler than those with top notch tackle or have any less chances of winning. Its the taking part thats important and if you enjoy it your a winner anyway.
Having seen you tackle Migdalegal, I think you have enough and migdaleboy does very well and glad to see he,s bringing you on leaps and bounds. You just keep at it and Im sure you will get there in the end.

I know but I treat reels, lines and rods like some women treat shoes!

It's nonsense - good anglers are good anglers !

Just look at what Mr.Appleby has done, having been originally known as a small water specialist.
