The Melvin Open heats are being held on 21/22/23 August with the final on Sunday 24th ,Is any other forum members attending ?There will be 3 guys from my club fishing on the Thursday heat so if any of you are fishing that day make sure to say hello

Will be on Melvin for the open but not sure what day. Fishing has been fairly slow by all accounts so hope fully the next few weeks should see an improvement. There is a one day competition on Lough Conn from Cloghans on the 16th of August which would be a nice warm up event for you to try Its only an hour and a half drive from Melvin and its fishing better than most by all accounts.

As far as i know you qualify from your heat for the final on the Sunday .

Ya, you are paired up with a partner for the heat day and you fish as a team. A third of the teams from each day will go on to the final and I believe that you fish with the same partner on The final day. The competition on Conn is an individual competition but you are free to chose your fishing partner...there will be no draw for partners.

Hi JB ,i won't be able to make the competition on Conn on 16th August ,but i might be able to make the one near the end of the season though .Hopefully i'll bump into you at The Melvin though.

Hi Guys
Fish melvin alot came 10th last year, its half of each day go through and there are prizes for the first 16 but the fishing has been **** poor, most if not all the fish coming to the dibble or dead hang. This year is really going to be a lottery so if you only manage 2 or 3 dont become dispondant that will prob get you through to the final and then you can relax. But good luck all those entering but believe it or not Sheelin is the only lake fishing what a turn around.
