South of England Final - Grafham Water 14 July 2008
Fifty-four top anglers from the South of England enjoyed ideal conditions at Grafham Water with overcast skies and a light westerly breeze. Fishing with floating lines and nymphs in the middle of the water between I bouy and the dam they took 313 fish, giving a rod average of 5.8.
Twenty-one anglers had their 8 fish limit long before the 6.00pm deadline with Mark Miles bagged up just before 1.00pm
Phil Cotton took both the biggest fish a lovely 5lb 5 3/8oz rainbow and best bag of the match, weighing in 8 fish for 24lb 10oz (including time bonus). As you can't win two prizes in this competition, the prize for best fish passed to Neil West of Carbotec Kingfishers for his 4lb 3 5/8oz rainbow.
The weigh-in was a real 'nail-biter' with only 1 fish and less than 3 ounces between 1st and 2nd place. The first three teams qualified for a place at the International Final at Rutland Water on 30 September/1 October .
