Default Walthamstow FFC Wednesday Evening Series starts 21/5

Walthamstow Fly-fisher’s Club’s longstanding Wednesday Evening series starts again this Wednesday 21st May on Walthamstow’s day-ticket reservoirs Nos 4 & 5. A series of 8 matches – Dates: 21/5 28/5 4/6 11/6 18/6 25/6 2/7 & 9/7.

Even if you’re not competition-minded, this is good opportunity to meet the regulars – either on the bank or afterwards in the Ferry Boat – and find out what’s catching.

Meet 5.30pm for a 6.00pm start. (21st May 9.00pm finish.) All other matches 9.30pm finish. The best 5 results out of 8 matches count to overall points score. 2-fish limit weigh-in (but catch & release is allowed, although fish returned do not count to score). Those without season tickets should purchase a 2 fish evening ticket.

As a former season ticket holder, I'd rather stick needles in my eyes than fish that North London toilet again.

Bad enough that it's so close to 'Six Point Lane', which gives me the heebie jeebies as it is, those islands look like summit out of an Alfred Hitchcock movie, with the ever abundant 'Black Death' roosting in the decimated trees and demolishing a good share of every stocking that goes in.

With Thames Water's refusal to do owt about them and therefore obvious support of the 'twitchers' over anglers, I and many others won't be back.

Pip pip!

The Pirate.

Default Walthamstow FFC Wednesday Evening Series – update

Despite the attractions of the football, 10 members turned out for the first of Walthamstow FFC’s Wednesday Evening Series. John O’Regan took the top 2-fish bag with 5-1-0, closely followed by Gary Inwards (returned another 3 fish) and Andrew Green (returned 1). Good buzzer hatches still continuing with nice conditioned silver fish being landed.

Default Walthamstow FFC Wednesday Evening Series – Final Results

(Best 5 matches out of 8)

1. Andrew Green 48 points
2. Frank Daley 43 points
3. Gary Inwards 37 points

Biggest Fish Prize: 3-7-0 rainbow John Ferguson
(Fish of 3-15-0 and 3-11-0 were also landed)

This year’s event was well supported, with a dozen or more turning up most Wednesday evenings. Even the less experienced members started catching, with the front-runners landing anything up to six fish in an evening.

Should overcast conditions continue, we should see more of the excellent top of the water fishing we enjoyed in the later evenings, with some of the good conditioned 3lbs+ established fish showing to dries and washing-line tactics.

Wednesday evenings continue to be our night for friendly club sessions on the bank, and in the Ferry Boat afterwards. A good chance to meet the regulars and catch up with how Walthamstow’s fishing.

Look out too for our Autumn Saturday series, beginning in late September.

Full details will appear on the Walthamstow FFC website www.walthamstowffc.org.uk
