Angry Kill all our trout!!

Im very confused after speaking with a man last week that kills every wild trout he catches over the size limit required on his fishery. I asked him why ? and he simply answered
" If i didnt, someone else would" This i taught was a farily sad reply but he's not alone trust me . Ive had the pleasure of meeting a lot of these angler's of late and have had the same response .
To make matters worse , I dont really think they kill for the table . Its like something that is just bred into some of us Irish angler's . The just love to kill.

Im fairly new to competitions and I think that all competitions sould be made catch and release. Thats the only way that our fisherys will self sustain themselves i think.

Is there any laws in place to cut down on the killing in competitions i ask ?

Very sad really, I will catch and release wherever possible but don't have a problem with people taking for the table, but to kill for the sake of it and deprive others the opportunity to catch the fish smacks of either total ignorance or a lack of education

The world is full of anglers like this...there's something wrong in their heads! I see it on my club water...they turn up on stocking day and kill their limit...others just want to be seen with a bag full of fish, they feel it says to fellow anglers "look how good I am"

I firmly believe a lot of these dead fish end up in the bucket or feeding cats!

Competitions... Catch N Release.

If you want your fishery to be sustainable then stop the competitions which encourage the catching of as many fish as possible in as short a space a time as possible.

On our local stream that is hanging onto it'd trout population against all odds is getting stripped by men as well as young lads just for the sake of it

One guy had little trout stuffed into his pockets and said they would do the greyhounds. What chance do they have with this mentality.

It is a free to fish river and therefore no control.
Sad really

Ya you could be right , but its a real shame that our competitons will suffer. The could be still fished catch and release and save stocks. I posted this in relation to some of our Irish Rivers that i fish down south, I wonder are the fishery Boards aware of all the trout begin killed in our river comp's . Im talking about 10-20 trout for the top angler and working down along the line to last prize which may be an angler with 5-6 trout. I have heard that there was over 100 killed in one evening comp fished last year. It was a discrace and this was only one of many.
Many of these clubs dont seem to be put out about this at all. I find it very strange that our fishery boards alow this . We are tryng to encourage visting anglers to help our economy but im afraid there wont be much left for them in certain rivers and lakes the way were going.

The Kill everything policy will no doubt wipe a wild fishery out in no time , For god's sake do they not realise how fragile wild trout are

Fishmongers are just as bad , Look what happened to Gameshope Loch when the forums got wind of the quality trout - They cleaned the little loch out with bags of 30 odd trout , Left all the buckfast bottles , Beer cans etc

That's why I am carefull not to mention the wild loch's I now Fish

Rubbish. Why not try to introduce more catch & release into competitions, instead of just stopping competitions altogether.

There's a wee burn down my way, a nursery stream with wild trout. There's a man openly boasts about a tub of maggots being cheaper than buying pike bait, and gets his bait this way.

Because artificial stocking must take place to facilitate these competitions. Hardly sustainable is it?
