http://tafi.ie/?s=commonwealth Its old news mate.
I believe this is the first time, as until recently Tafi (like other competition associations in Ireland) represented the entire island of Ireland. Ireland is not a member state of the commonwealth. However Northern Ireland is, as part of the United Kingom.

"The Commonwealth of Nations is a voluntary association of 54 independent sovereign states (one of whose membership is currently suspended). Most are former British colonies, or dependencies of these colonies. No one government in the Commonwealth exercises power over the others, as in a political union. Rather, the relationship is one of an international organisation through which countries with diverse social, political, and economic backgrounds are regarded as equal in status, and co-operate within a framework of common values and goals, as outlined in the Singapore Declaration. These include the promotion of democracy, human rights, good governance, the rule of law, individual liberty, egalitarianism, free trade, multilateralism, and world peace, and are carried out through multilateral projects and meetings, as well as the quadrennial Commonwealth Games.[2] The symbol of this free association is Queen Elizabeth II, known for this purpose as Head of the Commonwealth. This position, however, does not imbue her with any political or executive power over any Commonwealth member states; the position is purely symbolic,"
This is obviously a way to give TAFI representation at the Commonwealth. Its what they wanted as an organisation and they went and got it. Fair play to them.
Im not sure where i sit with this, as in the past I have been against any division in Irish Angling. But this is not really a split its more of an extra arm, to allow TAFI to compete in another championship. They are now competing at the World Championships, European Championships, Commonwealth and Home Nations Banks Championships. There is certainly more ambition to compete, within Tafi than there was a few years ago and they seem to be embrassing change. That has to be acknowledged. Even if you look at their website. Its very impressive indeed.
I could be wrong but I am pretty sure that at no time will Tafi be competing against Tafi (NI). Unless there is another split of course. Time will tell.
Why did the NIFFA not try to enter the commonwealth championships before Tafi did.

Or if your members want to represent Northern Ireland, why dont NIFFA and TAFI (NI) join forces.

Again all of this is an example of too many angling organisations in Ireland. Surely it would be sensible to have one organisation in Ireland that represents all competition fly fisherman. If that ever happened then perhaps we could see Ireland realistically compete for a gold medal more often..
