Default not happy SANA COMPS.Drogues

after some thought and time(something not allowed to you at an AGM) i have decided to say that i am disgusted with the attitude of our ex president D cHALMERS congrats to J KETTLES on the promotion, when answering questions on the use of Dogues.when he attempted to belittle the member from Stranrar. with his smart quip.''i think that if you can't fish all line methods, you should not be fishing comps.''
case dismissed ''I DON'T THINK SO''YOU WERE OUT OF ORDER.
And i will bring this up again.
and next year,we better have somebody competent, announced, who is going to take proper minutes(that's what happens when you become a commercial company)This goes for SANA LTD as well.

jim twaddle.Caurnie angling.

I wll be presenting this to SANA COMPS ,Jim.

PS I understand the point made about parasites, but this had not been pointed out when the CHALMERS -STRANRAR exchange had been made.

Jim I wholeheartedly agree with your comments on the outgoing chairman. It may be a thankless job and time consuming but you dont get the right to belittle a 'shareholder'. His comments could have been thought out before his trap was opened.

As for parasites and drogues. If a water wants to hold heats/semis they should provide a drougue per boat. This would prove how keen some waters were to actually host a comp.

But to be honest, mass apathy was the winner as approx 30 people at a meeting with app 300 clubs. 10% turn out is not great when loads of people moan all season about stuff. Get aff yur arses and go to the meeting.

Sorry to go off on a tangent Jim.

Gents I`m a bit confused on your comments on drogues. are SANA introducing the use of drogues for the Scottish National this year?

Jim,

I dont do many posts but feel I have to on this occasion. I was at the COMPS AGM sat only two seats away from you. I feel you are being a bit strong in your review of what went on. Dave was caught up in the moment and could probably have got his point accross better. The point you raise "is" the meaning of the quote, but I think Dave's quote was more polite something like " I think that if you don't want to fish all line methods, then you should maybe question if you should be fishing SANA comps."

I don't want to speak for Mr Chalmers but my interpretation of this boils down to: imagine if you did qualify for the scottish team, turn up for the international, 1st day of practice find out best method is fast sinkers and pulling, then have to tell your team mates I dont do that, what a plonker! Who's the reserve would be the cry! On a personal view when and if I ever qualify for the team if I'am told to pull, nymph, dryfly, booby if thats what working I will do it to the best of my limited ability.

Gus as far as SANA introducing drogues to Scottish heats, semi's, final this year the rules remain unchanged. Drogues are allowed if issued by the officials on the day. Two members present actually remembered this happening (must have been a long time ago).

Also on the International comps the use of drogues remains the responsibility of the host nation at present. Wales were proposing to let drogues be used at all internationals, but after a vote the SANACC position was for the rule to be unchanged.

Dave Chalmers said that all the lines from floater right through to di7/8 were the comp fishers armoury. Could this not be true of knowing how to use a drogue properly. I have no experience of drogue fishing but as far as I know, it is not a case of chuck it out the back and let it do its thing. As I understand it, if it is set up wrong the boat will drift wrong, and set up correctly it can hold a drift despite where the wind wants the boat to go. In 2 of the comps I fished on the lake last year, the boat was drifting all over the place, spinning around so the bow was downwind etc. a drogue would have made a big difference on those days. my boat partners and I had to spend time continually straightening the boat up. Besides, the rule states that drogues will be allowed at the comittees discretion on the day. Even though at the AGM, they clearly stated that they dont have drogues to issue out!!!!

On another note, the chap who raised the point about drogues at the national didnt say he couldnt or wouldnt fish heavy lines. He said if his prefered method was to fish floaters he wanted to be able to do that.

I don't no what the beef is about is it Mr Chalmers reply to the question put to him or the fact that you don't seem to like fishing drouges north of the border! It can be difficult enough to control your flies on a windy day with a drouge let alone without one, but my feeling is that the non use of them is to play to the stengths of the "super pullers" that used to dominate the scotish comp scene on Leven and there efforts to stay with the game!

I was at the agm, personally I have no real issue either way with drogues although if it ever came to a vote I would probably vote no.
They are fine when boats are well dispersed but where they are crowded (often the case) the boats not using them keep should probably leave the drift when they catch up with the boat in front. Otherwise they will be moving in to another boat's drift and/or will drift past too close to the boat with the drogue. They will assist in keeping boats straight but the different speeds would create more problems.
I did not get the impression D Chalmers was trying to belittle the member, I took it that he was just making the point that the qualifiers (National) should be fished to the same conditions as would probably apply in an international.
Whatever his exact words (I haven't discussed with him) he wouldn't have had any more time to consider them than anyone else at the meeting. It was not a prepared statement!
If an issue had been raised at the time he might have rephrased it. Most of us sometimes wish they had worded something slightly differently afterwards.
Jim, I have never encountered verbatum minutes incuding many years working in a PLC. I am not sure what difference Ltd makes. In my experience minutes are invariably a summary of the main points discussed with the outcome/action to be taken. Personally, that is more than enough for me and I would imagine recording every word spoken including by whom would be a nightmare. Recorders don't work well in large reasonably full rooms. Would probably have to be microphones being passed around. It would give people more time to think about exactly what they were going to say but the agenda might not be completed.

Wullie,

I can assure you that all internationalists know how to set up a drift with a drogue. As far as your 2 comps at the lake last year, where was your boatman, I assume from your comments you didn't have one, thats his job, not to hold against the wind but to keep you square to the wind.

I was also at the meeting and feel that Davie would perhaps have re-phrased his comments if he had the time or advance warning of the question from the floor. Davie speaks his mind and can come over as being insensitive sometimes, but I prefer a 'straight shooter' to a mealy-mouthed back-stabber any day of the week. You always know what Mr Chalmers is thinking and he takes few prisoners.
As regards drogues and the 'super-pullers', the inability to use drogues in a 'blow' actually suits the low-density line users. Trying to maintain contact with a high-density line whilst in a fast drifting boat is a nightmare (if not impossible), as some will no doubt discover on Melvin in June. The banning of drogues in SANACC competitions suits the old guard rather than the other way about.
