Default top tips for comp fishing?

Hi All
What are the best tips anyone can pass on for competition fishing?
I have fished in 2 but never caught anything! yikes! pressure?
It is a friendly comp in a small stillwater for rainbows etc.

Can you offer up any tips for me to increase my catch?

Thanks in advance
cheers
rusty

Get to know the fishery... talk to the consistant anglers... see what they do and ask for tips! If they are decent blokes (some are) they will gladly pass-on info etc..... Practise..... and get 'used' to different methods and most importantly (as well as enjoying yourself) have 'confidence' in what you do.. that is the best fly in the box

Ignore the example set by many of the top rods.. Always stay for the presentation to applaud the prizewinners. One day it'll be you.

If I had a pound for every 'the wife's got a leg of lamb in the oven' story I've heard.

I concur!
You're not competing against your partner or others on the water, treat it as a days fishing and relax, you'll fish far better!

well i would say much the same as everyone. but one more thing change your fly and tactics often! till you find one that does the trick. while you are enjoying being there relax and mostly dont try to hard.take your time, dont rush if you feel that thinks are not working then sit back for two mins and look at the other lads see if you can think of another tactic.then go back to it. dont go out to win it helps me.i still dont win ive come second once lol but ive got better time is the key.#

phil good luck

If you are fishing in a competition from a boat, always aim to beat your boat partner...

Check back on the internet for previous reports on the fishery, which might give you an idea as to what tactics have worked.
