Default Qualifying to fish for England

Guys
As far as I know both males and females are allowed to enter the National qualifiers to try and win the right to fish for England.

(Even though there is a Ladies Team)

And I think at least one female has made the Senior team.

I don't think that there is an upper age limit either that makes you ineligible but do we have a lower limit that stops younger anglers entering?

Is this ageism ?

Is it sensible when we have such talented anglers in the Youth squad to preclude them from trying to win a senior team place?

Are the thoughts above correct and what do you think.

In theory I think it's a good idea, if they are good enough, why not?
In practice, however, this would open up a real can of worms. Team management would have to possess an enhanced CRB check and undergo Child Protection training every 3 years.
The relevant rules are set out by Sport England. Daft I know, but unfortunately necessary under the "nanny state".

I don't know much about competition fishing so just a few questions from a dad who might dream about his kid's possible fishing future; whilst it would appear a sensible principle to allow all comers, wouldn't it weaken the competition at junior level? I presume junior level is where fledgling competitors cut their teeth and gain confidence? I do remember one lad on here selling rods to fund his fishing so presume resources are limited and self funding gives those with more bucks behind them an edge, perhaps making it a choice of whether to fish one or the other? If fishing both becomes the expected norm for those approaching decent skill levels, then is there a danger of enthusiasm burn out? ...or exclusion from being expected to fish both in a transition phase due to lack of resources?

Correct , so in the interests of equality and fairness , can men enter the ladies eliminators

Is there a rule that stops under 18's entering the qualifiers?

i personally think that should a lady qualify to fish for the mens team the lady should not be allowed to qualify for the ladys team fish for one team only julie emerson qualified for the mens team some time ago and what a fine angler she is but as i understand it didnt fish in the ladies team again(julies choice i think)

Just my thoughts but Juniors should fish juniors, Ladies fish ladies, Disabled fish disabled and the seniors should be men only!!! Only my point of view.

From the TEFF Site:

"Where required in England, all competitors must be in possession of a valid Environmental Agency rod licence. To Participate in a TEFF national competition, an individual must have been born in England, or be a citizen thereof, or have resided therein for at least 3 years preceding the date of the competition. For this purpose, Monmouthshire is considered to be part of Wales. Anyone living within 5 miles of the border between England and Scotland is considered eligible to fish for either country. Entry is limited to those who will be at least 18 years old on May 1st of the following year. Only one entry per person per year is allowed in each TEFF national competition."

It always has been 18 for the age limit and ladies, disabled etc...can all fish for the England Senior team..

If there good enough and qualify then great....they deserve their place....

A few anglers have been good enough to go straight from the youth team to the senior team, but via qualification when they are 18

from memory i believe the following all qualified straight from the youth team (although i may be a year out ):-

Nick Arthurs
Joel Beeney
Phil Dixon

I personally think that the age restriction is correct....The kids have a lot on, GCSE'S, A levels etc.... Training and development days with the Youth team..fishing in the big open matches(TFEO & Anglian)......as well as the Youth International.

It's a good grounding for them in competition fishing, you don't want to throw them in the deep end or they may just sink rather than swim.....they may just feel that they don't enjoy it so much and so give in....
