Default blobs banned

me and a few friends were going to fish a competition shortly but have just been informed that no blobs have to be used has any forum members ever heard of this i personally havent find it hard to believe whats the competition scene turning to boobys yes but why blobs i think that a certain person is getting vindicated to as hes won the previous competition and second place before that using the tecnique let me say this is causing a lot of unhappiness to certain people its hard enough to catch fish as it is without getting told what fly to use whats your views on this

Blobs were banned at the Burnhouse competition yesterday as were boobies and egg flies. The competition was catch & release and I think the logic behind it was that blobs/eggs fished under an indicator or dead-drift on a floater can lead to fish being deeply hooked.

This rule didn't detract from the competition at all and was accepted by all competitors. The top individual had 17 fish and the rod average was around 6.5.

I'd say that if you don't feel you can cope without blobs, give the competition a miss.

i respect what your saying troutbum but as you state the fish are deeply hooked because there below the indicator the individual does not use an indicator he retrieves the blob so if thats the case can the same be said for any fly below an indicator of all the fish my friend has released he has never had a fatality personally i think its been blown out of all proportions

irrespective of how the decision came about, the rules are there for everybody. I fished a puddle comp last year at a fishery where they allow boobies except in comps. I would normally have fished one plopped across the surface but couldnt because they were banned. I had to fish different methods and still took 3rd place and biggest fish. For years I used to have a dig at the float fishers (bung) but for the past 3 weeks I have been blowing the cobwebs off while practicing this method and have had great results.
