Blobs were banned at the Burnhouse competition yesterday as were boobies and egg flies. The competition was catch & release and I think the logic behind it was that blobs/eggs fished under an indicator or dead-drift on a floater can lead to fish being deeply hooked.
This rule didn't detract from the competition at all and was accepted by all competitors. The top individual had 17 fish and the rod average was around 6.5.
I'd say that if you don't feel you can cope without blobs, give the competition a miss.
