Default Floating line matches

Looks like next year may have a more flexible work pattern.Thinking along the lines of doing a bit of match fishing ,due to a self imposed floating line only for trout method ology for the last 20 odd years have lost most of my sunk line skills and those were more dead blackbirding with mega lures at the Queen mum !
Thinking that floating line matches would be a good starting point for me ,whats available to the London based but willing to travel as far North as Rutland and west to Chew/blagdon???
Sunday matches would be ideal ,less hassle getting time off!

Well I was kindly steered to the Hanningfeild one last sunday .
OK met up with Chris aka Loopy and had a good day puttting the world to rights .Came in a wee bit early with 7 fish for just under 20lbs ,we were happy but had had enough fun for the day .
Next time out might take it seriously and fish all through ,and not loose weight by spooning

guess thats a no no !
The top matchmen and their partners Mullahed us ,byut hey it was a good day out ,as an aside fish were very good quality ,some taking us into the backing .in my case with a barrio gt140 saw the backing but that is a long line !
Guess if i had gone blobby would have had more but top flys were an olive dabbler behind a green peter muddler .
Lots of heart stopping follows to the muddler sometimes turning down and taking the dabbler or just disapearing.

Default Re: Floating line matches

If a trip down the M4 to Chew/Blagdon is ok then have a look at the Bristol Reservoir Fly Fishing Association site. Membership is peanuts and they organise a lot of comps on the lakes.

Welcome

Chew also runs an evening boat comp throughout the season usually on a Thursday during the Spring and Summer months.

Bookmark their site for next year.

Cheers
