Default Who tells the boatman?

I enjoyed reading about the Menteith comp. but know nothing about comp fishing and was wondering - who decides where the boatman goes?

Basically, if there is not an agreement between both anglers on where they want to go then the angler who wins the toss in the morning decides the location for the first 2hrs and so on...the boatman can throw in his 2p worth, but its the competitors who have the final say

Ok. So the boatman can give his opinion. So a bit like golf (), having a good caddy can make a difference.

Thanks, Chunky.

The boatman must remain neutral,It is not normal for the boatman to direct the anglers to Areas, tactics and methods..They have to be seen to fair to both competitors.

Blimey, Jim. I saw that you were a boatman at Menteith. Does that mean that you had to keep your thoughts to yourself for an entire day? Can't see that happening.

Just kidding.

All the same it must be quite difficult if you're sitting there with a good idea as to where and how and the competitors are getting it all wrong, and not be able to say anything.

Anyway, sounds like a good time was had by all.

It is very very difficult.1 of my guys was losing fish.and I could see a reason for this.but had to keep my thoughts to myself,as I could not think of a way round appearing biased.
