Twenty anglers caught a total of 69 fish in extremely cold conditions on what turned out to be the 2011 Carron Valley Masters opening heat after last week's qualifier was cancelled.

The heat was won by former England youth international Matthew Holdroyd, 17, from Northumberland, just 2cms ahead of Gus Shepherd.

1 Matthew Holdroyd, 8 for 303cm. 2 Gus Shepherd, 8 for 301cm. 3 Calum Hardie, 7 for 276cm. 4 John Morton, 6 for 255cm. 5 Craig McKean, 6 for 231.5cm. 6 Malcolm Miller, 6 for 214.5cm. 7 John Wilson, 5 for 202cm.

Like you say coaster Matthew Holroyd is a former England Youth International, what an angler he is and Team Change have certainly got themselves one for the future.
I fished with Matthew in my match and boy can he fish, even caught with wets on a di7.
