We fished our first eliminator on Hanningfield today and it was rock hard.
Sitting on one fish about halfway through the match and with the wind dropping, I persuaded my boat partner that we should head to the down wind area where I had caught yesterday in practice. Good decision methinks after a missed pull and a fish on the first drift, sadly the wind slowly increased and we had no more action so decided to head for calmer waters.
Only problem was we had to travel upwind through some big waves, so decided to head across and then up the shoreline, which worked well for a while until we hit a really big one and shipped so much water my Shakespeare box was floating
I thought we might make it to the calmer water but my boat partner correctly suggested we beach it, which we managed to do, but by now we were listing big time and the engine went under as we hit the shore - both of got out into waist high water and rescued our gear, so no real harm done, EXCEPT both my boat partners fish got lost, including an estimated 6-7lber.
The wardens did a great job of rescuing the boat and picking us up by car, so many thanks to them and apologies to Mick - my two fish got me 11th, so his two would have been top 5. LLoyd Pallet won it with the only limit of 14lbs.
Anyway, quite an eventful day....................
