Airflo AW - Overseas teams
We have always enjoyed these comps and for a couple of years we managed to enter 2 teams. It is however a bit of as treck for us coming from the Isle of Man.
Just to get off the Island by ferry is around £500 - assuming we get 5 in one vehicle. Realisticaly we would need 2 cars which bumps up the cost even more. When you then add on petrol, digs and fishing costs ( i wont even mention beer!) it all starts to add up.
To set our sights on a place in the final would mean undertaking this journey 3times and would be a serious financial commitment. In addition, we have pretty much a days travel involved each way so another 6 days of the valuable annual leave is eaten up.
From what i understand, the teams from Ireland are able to fish a first round and then qualify for the International final without going through a further regional final, based upon which Irish team performs best. Is my understanding correct?
If this is the case do you think there would be any mileage in us asking the organisers for IOM teams to be included in this equation?
Alternatively, is there now enough overseas interest to hold a separate "overseas" heat ? (Belgium team , Irish teams, IOM team , Scotish offshore islands teams?)
