Default fishing the dee competition in january

im fishing the dee qualifiying competition in january, its my first big competition, its always been abit of a personal goal just to enter and fish a competition like this one, its just about the taking part for me , and pushing myself out of the comfort zone , the biggest bonus would be that i meet like minded people and possibly learn something, im a bit nervous about the "controller' aspect of the comp, its something ive never done so have no experience with, if anyone can give me any advice i would love to hear back from you........!

Just make sure your not interfearing with ' the fishing ', by that i mean just hang back and keep low but keep up, the angler will bring any fish to you to be measured. You may have to do a bit of running so make sure your fit, careful and comfortable ..... You may get a rest bite as it'l be grayling
Other than that it'l be a doddle and you'l enjoy it.

Fred would be in his comfort zone as size isn't necessarily important!

20 points is awarded for a fish. Then a point per centimetre. So two 20cm fish will get you more points than one 40cm specimen! That's why size may not be important.

Controlling is an opportunity to watch other anglers fishing and in that Qualifier you will see some good anglers.

As Fred says keep low and out of the way. As for running? I don't think that's allowed. But I don't doubt there will be some shifting about.

You will have a Record sheet and a measuring trough. The angler should present the fish in the net and, if it doesn't fall out, the hook in the mouth.
It should be fished as a barbless or debarbed comp. As a controller you will check the hooks on each fish landed. Usually a quick jab in your fleece should anull any doubts.

You will measure the fish and record the exact length - i.e 25.6cm and agree it with the angler.

It's not that daunting and I am sure that there will be plenty of advice and the rules will be set out before the day.

Good for you in having a go. I am sure you will learn a lot and enjoy some top company.
