Default Willowgate Fishery (Perth) - Winter Comps

We are holding a series of competitions at Willowgate this winter. The first of these will take place on Saturday 13th November.

The competition will be fished on a catch & release basis with 30 minute sessions on each peg. The first prize is £100 cash with various other prizes (tackle, vouchers, fly tying materials, whisky etc) also on offer.

The entry fee is £25 and this includes refreshments and a hearty lunch from the Willowgate Cafe

I already have a number of scottish internationalists booked in for the comp including a few of the Change Flyfishers guys who have had such a good season. This is a good opportunity for any small-water specialists to pit their wits against the loch-stylers

To book a place, you can either contact the fishery on 01738 446546 or you can PM me or call me on 07963 275996.

Tight Lines, Martin

The comps will be fished to fishery rules.

Maximum hook size 8 - no double hooks. All flies must be de-barbed.
Boobies and snake flies are not Permitted.
Maximum of three flies.
Indicators are permitted and do not have to be capable of catching a fish. If the strike indicator does contain a hook, this will count as one of the three flies.

The placings will be based on the total number of fish caught. In the event of a tie, the time of the first fish caught will be used to decide the place. Competitors will be issued with golf-style score cards and will have to record the number of fish caught at each peg in conjunction with the angler on the next peg. A fish will be deemed to be caught when it is in the net - competitors need to bring their own nets (knotless mesh).

All places now filled but as with all things arranged in advance, there are always one or two who drop out so if you want your name on the reserve list, please contact me or the fishery as above.

For those who have entered, registration and briefing etc will be at 8.30am with the morning session beginning at 0915 sharp. Anglers will fish 6 different pegs in the morning (30 minutes each) and lunch will be at 1215. The afternoon session will start at 1300 and anglers will fish a further 6 pegs (30 minutes each). Fishing will finish at 1600 and this will be followed by presentation of prizes etc.

Please remember to bring a net (knotless mesh).

We have assembled a seriously high quality field for this competition with many Scottish internationalists at World, Commonwealth, Loch-Style and Rivers levels. The Change Flyfishers Team (Scottish Club Champions 2008, 2009 & 2010 and Anglian Water Airflo International Champions 2009, & 2010) will be well represented.

Spectators will be welcome so please feel free to come along and see how its done

The first of the Willowgate winter competitions on Saturday 13th November was a big success. Thirty anglers landed a total of 212 fish giving a rod average of just over 7 fish.

Stuart McCormack scooped the top prize of £100 and a Willowgate voucher. Stuart made the most of what turned out to be a good peg draw and stormed into an early lead.

Despite only catching one fish in the afternoon session, Stuart was able to hold off late charges from a number of anglers including Jock Kettles, pictured below, who managed four fish in quick succession from a tricky mid-afternoon peg

It was a great day, really enjoyed. The facilities at Willowgate were 1st class for running an event like that. Flybox looks forward to supporting the next competition on 11th Dec.

Special thanks to Martin Smith and the staff at Willowgate for making it a great day out for all the anglers.
