Default Izaak Walton's Cottage Museum

An unashamed plug for a small museum close to me - Izaak Walton's Cottage, Worston Lane, Shallowford, Stafford, ST17 0PA. It's worth a visit if you're in the area. Steeped in local history, nice gardens and the upstairs has a good collection of old rods, reels, cases, books, etc.

Open Sunday afternoons only, 1pm-5pm, 2nd May to 29th August 2010. Free admission.

The Izaak Walton Cottage Chapter run a number of fly casting and fly tying events at the cottage each year - 2pm-4pm on 27th June, 25th July, 29th August 2010. Also an event for the kids - a Teddy Bears Tea Party - Sunday 11th July 2010 - puppet show, games in garden, face painting bouncy castle, craft stalls, etc. Free entry if accompanied by a teddy bear!

Please give it your support.

Kev

It is Steven. A good place to spend an hours or so.

Might be of interest to any local lads, I noticed the following ...

Presumably Stafford Mill would have been on Mill Bank or Tenterbanks, Stafford, so it must have been out of The Sow?

Yes, seen that cased fish Kev, I also assumed it to be from the Sow - perhaps by whats now the pub? seeing as that was the old Mill?

Steven - thats the cottage that I used to have as an avatar if you think it looks familiar!

By way of total contrast to old Izaak's day, just round the corner from the cottage is Izaak Walton fishery at Chebsey - a high profile commercial match fishery. Wonder what the old boy would have made of that? (actually to be fair, its quite a nice looking fishery - been around it but haven't fished it, it tends to get quite busy at weekends when matches are on)
