Thumbs up Monnow Social 2010

Hi All
The River Monnow Social is back for a fourth year running in 2010. Regular visitors to the Monnow thread and attendees of last previous bashes will recall that we drank beer, more beer, whisky and wine in beautiful surroundings, ate steak and even caught some fish. The experience is to be repeated this year between Fri 7th and Sun 9th May.

There is a maximum of 22 places available (at this stage).

Your hosts for the Weekend will be the usual suspects, and judging from the pms I have received already, so will the majority of the attendees

Sadly it appears that the event will be robbed of some of its glamour this year as our Mafiosi cousins from the Dee valley have committments elsewhere, and Cothi is in Bulgaria scouting for talent

The cost for this year's event will be £125. The increase is the first in four years and is largely down to the fact that we will have to hire the Marquee and accompanying bits and pieces. Your money will cover Camping costs, supper on friday & saturday nights and breakfast on saturday & sunday mornings; it will include your fishing for the weekend also. One day on the main stem and one on a wilder upper river beat. As with last year, any surplus will go straight to the Monnow Fisheries Association.

As with last year, we will be seeking to repeat the saturday night drunken auction. So if you have anything to contribute - no matter how obscure - then bring it along.

Fishing wise, things are not finalised but we will have some lovely water available, a mix of wild upper catchment and main stem - including some mouthwatering new stretches of the Dore and Honddu. The idea is to secure a wide range of beats and keep them as lightly fished as possible so that nobody gets "sloppy seconds". For those of you who know the river system, well you know what to expect.

We have an initial list of interested people from last year's event but we may have a few extra rods available for this years event. Things being what they are, it is likely that some original names may not be able to attend or have to drop out. So if you are interested, please drop me a PM and we'll keep you posted on developments. Once we have a list of attendees, we will be asking for a deposit and then there will be a cut-off date after which we will open up the event to anyone on a waiting list.

bfn

The normal format is for people to turn up during late Friday afternoon/evening to set up camp on the river bank and we keep a few adjoining beats (the "home Beats" available for people to wet a line that evening.

But for the first time last year we made some upper tributary (very small and probably not available to anybody else stream) fishing available on the Friday to those that have nothing better to do on a Friday than fish! So I am happy to repeat that with something similar this year. There are no guarantees with this because it is river and beat dependant but let me know if you are intersted in some Friday fishing.

Regards

Rob

Sound like it's going to be a great bash! I've put in a request for a place; and my fingers are crossed! Because I know how quickly your list becomes full! So, maybe see you at the Social this year?

Regards

Grizzle,

Probably find you something to suit!

For those who might be looking at this thread thinking shall I, shan't I then: the format is that you get to fish a day on the main Monnow and one on an upper tributary beat. We pair you off so singletons get to fish with another and if you are a river novice there are plenty of opinionated tw*ts who just can not help giving you advice and then there is me.

Joking apart it is a good place to party and to learn a lot about river fishing and drinking your own body weight, each evening.
