Sunshine and blustery showers.

Safe journeys everyone.

A great weekend and a reflection of the efforts that Rob, Dave and Neil put into the organisation - brilliant from every perspective.

Challenging fishing on Saturday with difficult winds and coloured water for those fishing the tributaries but today..................... oh today, I've fallen in love and it's the real thing. Suffice to say, the Monnow is a gem - visit if you can. Some pictures................

Assembly - in front of the 'mess tent' - weddings and bar mitzvahs catered for!

Out of season but certainly not 'out of sorts'.

My best, one of 12 great brownies today.

A very special mention to the catering guys Tom and his sous-chef (not kitchen ***** Madcaster!). For stirling work above and beyond - deserving of the highest award in the face of such a dubious clientele!

Thanks again.

So glad you had a good one today Bill, I thought you would enjoy the main stem.

Fished down stream of Lighthouse Today on the Monnow, worn out from catching fish (and the odd late night). Fantastic day, brilliant weekend.

I hope Splash2 will post a couple of pics to show how Saturday on the Honndu went (pretty please mate) turned out not to bad .

I hope you all enjoyed it as much as I did.

Cheers
Neil

I also had a spectacular time on the monnow today. Lots and lots of beautiful brownies - and not one under 10 inches all day! I was laughing out loud at times because of how these trout would come shooting totally out of the water when they took the fly. Wonderful. Rates in my top 10 fishing days.

I also had my personal best grayling - I'd say an honest 2.5 pounds. Didn't put up much of a fight, but it was massive!

Now, what I want to know is, did any of you lot who fished the same beat on the monnow yesterday manage to hook that wily ******* that lives in the eddy behind the drowned canoe? (I won't give any more clues as to the location of this spot than that). I must have showed that fish 5 different patterns and he just wouldnt come out to play. He's a biggun. I got his friends though.

Thanks a lot Dave, Rob and Neil (sorry Neil - forgot to stick your name on here - hence the edit) for all your hard work in organising this! Can I sign up now to come back next year?

Mike

What a superb weekend with great company and wonderfull fishing.

Thanks to everyone involved in organising the event and to the Monnow for being so good to us on Sunday.

The fish came out to play and the shear variety of the fishing was just fascinating. You felt reluctant to leave every pool, only to find a better one further on.

Hope to see a few of you next time and for those of you who have not fished the Monnow you will not be disappointed.

............ Ian

I concur, the Monnow was spectacular fishing in beautiful surrounds, and the Honddu on sunday was a complete change of pace with careful presentation and bow and arrow work up and down the stretch I was in. And Mike I know the one you mean, couldn't find a way to get to him safely on Saturday so moved on down, there were equally nice fish all over that stretch.

Superb weekend ,fine catering ,fine liquor(local Cider lethal),great company, good organisation, not enough hours in a day .
Sewin man and I fished two beats ,saturday was the tiny Hondhu set in stunning scenery a real small stream five or six pools and odd wee pockets with lots of fly grabbing trees .The weather was mixed and windy seemed to be little hatching ,still managed to winkle a brace on yellow duns ,Morgan had double that fishing NZ style .
These fish were wild ,the wee Agutters cane I robbed Cothi of performed beautifully under the trees the weather turned chilly at around six so we headed of .
There followed a trip to the local where we were greeted by a bar with the lights of a shout of are you open was could be ,we had a couple of Yarlington mills cider which caused me to need to lie down for a while 7.6 ABV.
Napped out and refreshed ,found a drop of Californian red to wash down fine local sirloin steaks ,a drop of port to help the digestion of cheese and buscuits,a night cap of Malt and sleep came easily .

Sunday dawned ,chilly before the sun came up ,massive doses of builders tea serenaded by 20 odd snorers .
The catering team provided us with another fine Welsh or was it English breakfast . breakfast was followed by a breifing for all the rods as to which beat we had drawn for the day ,this strangely took far longer than the previous morning BTW my monthly intake of Ibuprofen was shared out over the 2 mornings
Morgan and I had drawn the Tregate Anglers beat , the bottom beat car park acess point is hard to find ,still we had some fine driving through some glorious country side ,we did the beat upstream from the bridge as that car park made sense ,near midday by the time we started fishing ,I found my biggest wild fish of the day all of 12 inches but fit as a fiddle this took a may fly tied by Hove who some of you may know as Fleaflicker .
Morgan fishing just above me hooked and almost landded what must have been the biggest fish of the weekend .by then the desire for lunch was strong .Advice for anglers wanting lunch at the pub at the top of this fishery book a day in advance ,the local WI type store produced with home made sausage rolls and a tomatoe plant for my Highbury balcony .
Back to the river ,time running out we walked and fished four or five feilds and these are big feilds ,found the odd riser ,the sun got too us and soporific state ensued ,woken by a splashing rise I waded out ,the mayfly brought fish up missed six or seven till finally a 8 incher swallowed the fly ,this was a stocky ,needed the forceps to release it ,this was a stocky you can tell with these fish as they have blue marks on there bellys .
Morgan awoke and with encouragement joined me in the pool whwere he again hooked and lost afine fish .
Time was against us as he needed to be back in London so we left the river with not a huge catch but having had a most enjoyable day .

Can I book my place for next year
