LOCATION
We'll all meet in the car park of the Malthouse Inn Car Park on the A3057 just north of Romsey at 8.30AM. The postcode for the sat nav boys is SO51 0NG. We'll meet there then drive in convoy to the fishery. Try to be on time as my mobile doesn't work in this area! If you are late, head south from the car park towards romsey for 0.65 miles, and then with the hall on the left and immediately before the lay by on the left, turn right into Manor Lane towards the church. Follow this road for 160m, dog leg right ignoring the signs for the other Timsbury fishery, and follow the road past the old church for 120m until you get to the gate for Herons Mead. To the left of Herons Mead entrance there is a metal gate, drive through this, closing it behind you, and follow this down to the fishery car park.
THE ACCESS ROAD TO THE FISHERY HAS BEEN RESURFACED RECENTLY, AND IT'S NOT BEEN DONE PROPERLY! THE OWNER HAS ASKED THAT EVERYONE PLEASE DRIVES SLOWLY AND CAREFULLY DOWN THE TRACK
I'll get the unpleasant bit out of the way first thing, money, and then I'll organise a schedule for the tuition. The price for fishing is £25, and the tuition will be £15/45m because of high demand. The tuition can be on anything you like, apart from fly tying. Please be aware I'm on trust from the fishery owner, and if nobody pays me first thing, then they won't be fishing I'm afraid. If you are late, then no problem, but please try to find me before you start fishing to pay me.
Equipment wise, 8 1/2' #5 or 9' #6 is ideal, you can go smaller on the carriers, and a bit larger on the main river, so all you stillwater guys your 9 1/2' #7 will be OK, as long as you cast gently on the carriers! A floating line will do for everything. Flies wise forget your blobs, this is an upstream only beat, so dry flies and nymphs only. Suggested flies for Grayling, bearing in mind that the most difficult fishing will be with a nymph, but it will also be the most successful!;
Dries;
Traditional dries like red tag
Small black jobs
Hoppers
Small to medium parachutes
Small grey Wullfs
Small F Flies!!!! Very good for grayling!
Emergers
Small to medium klinkhammers, preferably muted colours but with a small bit of flash/colour to them.
Nymphs
Pheasant tail with a bit of red/pink colour
GRHE ( Not the dry fly version folks

) with a bit of red/pink colour
SHRIMPS SHRIMPS SHRIMPS!!!! Oh, with a bit of colour

Chezch(?) nymphs can work, but as wading isn't allowed and the main river is deep close in, it has limited use on the carriers.
Colour wise for Grayling, anything with Pink it it will see you right! If I had to pick three flies, they would be small pink f flies, a pink weighted shrimp, and a small coloured gold head pheasant tail like a rambo.
There is a pub nearby ( obvious I suppose, we're meeting in it's car park! ), for those so inclined, but for everyone else we'll meet at the main hut for lunch at 12 to exchange stories/successes/failures and eat sarnies.
REMEMBER, BROWN TROUT ARE OUT OF SEASON, AND YOU WILL NEED A FISHING LICENCE! RAINBOWS AND GRAYLING CAN BE KEPT IF SO DESIRED, ALTHOUGH I'D PREFER THE RETURN OF ALL GRAYLING. IF YOU ARE PRACTISING C&R, PLEASE USE BARBLESS HOOKS. ALSO, ANYBODY CAUGHT FISHING WITHOUT GLASSES WILL GET A KICK UP THE FUNDAMENT!
So there we go, I'll see you on Saturday!
