Default Monnow Social 2009

Hi All
The River Monnow Social is back for a third running in 2009. Regular visitors to the Monnow thread and attendees of last previous bashes will recall that we drank beer, whisky and wine in beautiful surroundings, ate steak and even caught some fish. The experience is to be repeated this year between Fri 8th and Sun 10th May.

There is a maximum of 22 places available (at this stage).

Your hosts for the Weekend will be the usual suspects, and judging from the pms I have received already, so will the majority of the attendees One or two welcome confirmations already:

Longtown Beau
The Farmers Daughter
Cothi

Also, if you hear rustling in the bushes, whilst there's a fair chance that it might be Sewinman trying to find the Farmer's Daughter's haystack, the likelihood is that it will be a member of the paparazzi... I can hardly contain my excitment.... as... we are also to be graced with the glamour and glitz of Fly Fishings very own Posh & Beck's... none other than Tarpon Princess and Madcaster... they have accepted a social invitation to come and drink.

The cost for this year's event will be £100. This will cover Camping costs, supper on friday & saturday nights and breakfast on saturday & sunday mornings; it will include your fishing for the weekend also. One day on the main stem and one on a wilder upper river beat. As with last year, any surplus will go straight to the Monnow Fisheries Association. As a bonus, each attendee will automatically become a member of the Monnow Fisheries Association.

One part of the social which we will be seeking to build on is the saturday night drunken auction. So if you have anything to contribute - no matter how obscure - then bring it along.

Fishing wise, things are not finalised but we will have some lovely water available, a mix of wild upper catchment and main stem - including some mouthwatering new stretches of the Dore and Honddu. The idea is to secure a wide range of beats and keep them as lightly fished as possible so that nobody gets "sloppy seconds". For those of you who know the river system, well you know what to expect.

We have an initial list of interested people from last year's event but we may have a few extra rods available for this years event. Things being what they are, it is likely that some original names may not be able to attend or have to drop out. So if you are interested, please drop me a PM and we'll keep you posted on developments. Once we have a list of attendees, we will be asking for a deposit and then there will be a cut-off date after which we will open up the event to anyone on a waiting list.

bfn
Dave

We aways knew that the Welsh had little picks.
