Right, the poll seems to have run it's course, with a dead heat between the 7th February and the 14th March, so I'm going for two dates instead of one. Also, some people have suggested a river day, therefore;
7th February Stillwater Tuition - Meon Springs fishery.
This will, in essence, be a normal fishing day at Meon Springs with 45m to an hour taken out of your day to have a lesson. The rates for Meon springs are basically £28/day for two fish, with no time limit on catching them, with free tea/coffee in the excellent lodge, and an innovative pricing policy that ensures you never leave 'short' on what you've paid for. It's a popular fishery and well worth a visit.
14th March River Tuition - River Test at Timsbury
Again, this will in essence be a normal days grayling fishing with access to lots of the middle Test, as well as it's carriers. Price wise it's £25/day to access what is one of the most famous beats of the Test, and it's well suited to beginners if this is your first trip to a chalkstream. It's a beat I know very well having guided there for over 5 years, and don't worry about not having the right chalkstream kit. The main river is larger than you think here, so a 9'6" rod #7 is perfectly suitable, especially if you're casting heavy grayling flies. For the carriers, an 8 1/2' #5 would be better, but again I've guided people catching grayling here with stillwater rods without any problems, but certain sections of the carriers would be a little tight.
To try and manage these events and to ensure I'm fair to everyone, and to make sure there's no risk of overbooking, I'll request that people contact me directly, either by phone 07762 701920 or by e mail
info@tightloops.co.uk to book a place. As soon as I know the numbers, I can then allocate tuition slots as the duration depends on numbers. As mentioned before, the tuition rates will be reduced by a third as I'm doing them 'in bulk', so it will be £20/hr or £15/45m depending on numbers.
I would ask that if anyone books a slot, that they do their utmost to honour it. This is because it may deny a place to someone else who really wants to go, and because it may mean it's financially not feasable for me to organise in the future. The main reason however is that it may cause bad feeling, and as fly fisherman are a decent bunch of folks, I don't want to be organising an event which causes friction between good people.
So there we go, two great days organised, let me know who wants to go!
