Hi Pete, sorry for the delay in answering, this work carry on is a real bore when it interferes with fishing! Yes the competition is bank only and competitors have around 7 miles of bank to choose from.
cheers
Richard

Which bright spark came up with this ridiculous idea.....? the very last thing that St Mary's needs at this moment in time, is something which will impact on an already declining and dwindling population of wild fish.....for what.....? a stupid prize and a meaningless trophy..... Idiots......

Totally agree jimmy, some folk need their heads looking at

Wild fish are in decline all over but some folk just keep taking and taking, hope your comp is a washout.

I don't know the Loch in question but I am totally against competitions leading to huge bags of dead wild fish. Have never fished one and never will.

I take it - you do-NOT approve Wee-Man? Well, Me neither! Not fond of competitions; and that's lucky for those who do!! But if this Lough Lake, holds truly wild fish? I wouldn't approve of a fishing competition being held there!

Hello Jimmy, you come across as a very angry person, are you one of the Muppets that we have rounded up and sent packing during our cleanup campaign over the last few years? You seem to think you know an awful lot about our lochs and make some rather sweeping statements. I can’t seem to find you on our membership list! When precisely did you carry out your scientific survey on the lochs in order to ascertain your facts?
Am I correct in assuming your rant is based on fact or is it as I suspect based on supposition and innuendo?
Please allow me to correct your maligned outburst - Last year turned out to be the best season for Brown Trout that we can remember (the previous year was also a good one), a visiting club who hold a competition on our lochs caught fish aplenty and in excellent condition as did many of our members throughout the season. On comparing age with the weight of the Trout caught our advisers have found that our Trout are well within the growth parameters for a medium nutrient water. Our committed band of Trout anglers are most satisfied with the fishing it’s not easy but highly rewarding!

You appear to be something of an expert on our lochs, would you be interested in standing in for our two marine biology adviser’s (PhD and BSc) one of who has just retired from an illustrious career in freshwater ecology, spending a great part of his career at the fisheries research labs in Pitlochry?
On second thoughts Jimmy I think we will stick with our current advisers, they advise us on a factual basis and know what they are talking about! You might also like to know that the competition next year and thereafter will be catch and release, and the single reason it is not this year is that we have agreed to assist the Tweed Trout and Grayling Initiative in supplying measurements and taking scales from all fish caught as well as supplying some specimens for autopsy!
Oh dear more derision, “a stupid prize and a meaningless trophy,” thankfully that’s not the view of our anglers, whilst you are entitled to your own opinion I am beginning to suspect you have a latent reason for your vicious outburst?
Anyway thanks for your warm welcome to the forum it’s great when someone makes you feel at home, and for pointing out our many and varied deficiencies, we really will try to do better next year! Oh and as for being idiots, I think you will find that the person who utters unsubstantiated comments and jumps in without being in posession of the facts would tend to be the idiot. That wouldn’t be you by any chance?
Regards
Richard

Hello Barker 12774 please see the reply to wee jimmy, in particular the section on catch and release. It's a mistake to make bold statements without first ascertaining the facts!

Richard

Hello Mostyn, you not approving of competitions is fine, we think it is acceptable, you know nothing of our lochs by your own admission. We run the lochs as a fishery in transition from a 4 fish limit to catch and release! We are not fishmongers!
Regards
Richard

Richard I take your points. It may have been better if you had explained things a little clearer in your original post.
There are a lot of places holding competitions where at the end of the day bags of fish are lying in car boots destined for the cat or the bin and many of us here are strongly against that.
Guess that is what some of us may have pictured.

Welcome to the forum btw.
