Thanks to Tom Tucker and to all the anglers that supported. Had a good day out with Dooras and its just a pity that the lake was rising so much. Anyone that has fished from Cloghans will know that normally the end of the pier is showing during the fishing season. The lake has risen about 3 feet in the last few days and now the pier is totally covered and we have had to pull all the boats up on 2 separate occasions.

Dooras and I met plenty of fish and boated 13-14 trout that were all about 12 - 12 i/2 inches. The decision on the size limit for next years International on Conn will be interesting.....In my opinion they should go with a 12 inch limit for the final as this will at least double if not treble the catch and will make for a better result and a fairer match.

Nice to get a couple of good results prior to heading to Menteith so hopefully the luck will last for another couple of weeks

I'm a lucky boy then as I was lucky enough to meet a nice Scottish lad last year who has promised to look after me

I did a bit of research on him and it seems that he catches a few fish on Menteith, so that's me sorted, all I have to do is to show up and my casts and all will be tied for me

I'm over in Mayo for a few days in September and am going to have a day on Conn. I'd appreciate any advice on fly choice and Autumn hotspots on Conn. Also would there be any areas on the Lough which suit buzzer fishing ? ( assuming the right conditions ).

Hi Carrowmore,

It would be a bit too late in the year for the buzzer fishing unless it was flat calm in which case you could get some very small flies hatching.

Dries like sedges, hoppers and daddies are the way to go if calm. otherwise pull wets like a melvin octopus, green peter, sedges, stimulators and fry imitations

You can ring my father, Padraic Kelly at 096-22250 when you are over and he will give you any info that you need on location at the time. It just happens that I will be away in Bonnie Scotland catching loads and loads of rainbows at that time.
